Hi guys, if you are facing a question mark folder like this on your Mac, then you came to the right place:
So what does that mean?
When you press power bottom on your Apple MAC BookPro or MAC BookAir you show a question mark (?)
with folder icon and you can not login your OS (operating system) or cnat boot OS.
In this video, you will learn how to fix flashing folder with question mark on Macbook with 3 effective ways.
Method 1: Boot MacBook with Start-Up Manager.
Method 2: Repair Startup Disk with Disk Utility.
Method 3: Reinstall macOS.
Now how do we fix it?
Method 1
Step 1-Shutdown Your Macbook (holding down the power button)
Step2-Hold “ALT or Option” key until the Apple logo on your screen
Step3- Startup Manager. Here select the start disk using the arrow keys and tap “enter” you have selecte the right partition or drive.
Your system will restart normally without flashing the question mark folder.
Method 2:
Step 1 – Go to recovery mode. turn off your mac by holding the power button.
Step 2 – Turn on your Mac and immediately press and hold the Command (?) + R keys.
Step 3 – Release the keys when you see an Apple logo,You might be prompted to enter a password (administrator).
When the Startup is completed you will see the utilities window.
Step 4 – Then choose “Disk Utility” from the macOS utilities window.
Step 5 – Select the startup disk, which will be named “Macintosh HD”.
Step 6 – Click the “First Aid” tab and tap the “Repair” icon to repair the startup disk.
Step 7 – Wait for the repairing process to complete and then head to Apple menu. Choose Startup Disk and restart your Macbook.
Method 3:
Step 1 – Again, hold down the power button and press “Command+R” Go to recovery mode.
Step 2 – Select “macOS Utilities” and click on “Reinstall macOS”.
Step 3 – In the next window, select Macintosh HD and erase the previous startup disk.
Step 4 – Now, simply follow the on-screen instructions to reinstall macOS on your laptop.
In short, the question mark folder is a default animation for a Missing Operating System. The mac has looked at the last used boot up record and can’t find it.
The mac then has looked in all places and has found nothing that is bootable by the UEFI.
Why does this happen? Three Reasons
A failed update or corrupt NVRAM settings file that points to the drive
Hard Drive Cable is loose, is bad or Drive is bad (Hardware issue, replace the Hardware)
If this doesn’t work and you can’t get any drive to boot, it’s time to reinstall OS or replace the drive.
