Steam Deck OLED vs Legion Go: The Hardware Nobody is Talking About

We’ve had the Lenovo Legion Go in our sights for a couple of weeks now. With its beautiful 8.8” QHD display powered by the Ryzen Z1 Extreme, innovative controls, and whispers of a repairable design, we genuinely thought that the Steam Deck may have finally met its match.
Then out of nowhere, Valve released an upgraded Steam Deck with an OLED panel, a new 6-nanometer processor, and a bunch of repairability upgrades! We couldn’t resist. We might have two repairability heavyweights in the teardown lab and we’re going to pit them against each other to see who’s more likely to walk away after a good beating.

  • But soon they might switch to torx plus screws which are still harder to find in certain parts of the world… :X

  • I really wish the upgraded parts could be swapped into the older model(s).

  • I'm just glad that the Steam Deck is a product people can purchase that doesn't help Microsoft maintain it's de-facto monopoly that people have given them. Fixing the desktop market share ratios is a huge win for consumers.

  • i just upgraded my 64gb, and the only difficult part was removing the back plate after unscrewing. i'm so excited for the next steam deck, i might replace my desktop entirely.

  • Nobody is talking about them because they are practically Chromebooks PC with lowend specs in a handheld form factor XD

  • This is a freakin' awesome video. I love tinkering with my PC, but I'm not very comfortable with portable devices. The most I did with my Deck is to swap out memory cards. Watching this video helps me realize that it is not that complicated at all to open up the Steamdeck all the way through. Thanks for the video! <3

  • Another point missed about the steamdeck oled back cover screws. They are all now the same length. Can't longscrew the wrong hole anymore, as you could on the original LCD model.

  • Same story as ROG ALLY. Good hardware but… But Deck is still the king because of 1) software, 2)eco system 3) price and finally TRACKPADS! 😀

  • 5:47 And this right there is what makes the Steamdeck feel so great. Most products on the market just feel like "products" nowadays and not something the people who developed it actually want.

  • Nobody is talking about it because they bad reviews on Amazon lol don't buy the legion crap

  • The LCD revision definitely was more than 2 months ago, mine is a revised model and i got it during the summer sale in July

  • Did not know the Lenovo handheld used hall effects. If that device has or gets good Linux support I might just swap out my Steam deck on that alone

  • When are the daughter boards coming for the 1st gen Steam Deck. I have a bad left button and I'm tired of waiting. 😢 Just bring it in stock.

  • The prominent enunciation is a bit much for me 😅

  • do you think Philip Head and Allen Key ever explored each other's bodies?

  • It’s too bad you didn’t show a better breakdown of the ribbon cable and speaker cable when taking off the heat shield, that would’ve been super helpful for us noobs trying to replace the SSD on our OLED Steam decks.

Woops, can’t be perfect I guess.

  • Torx > Philips any day.

Philips head screwdrivers, whilst owned by most, are usually the "In Dad's shed" type, massive things that are useless for opening smaller sized gadgets. If you're the type of person who likes to tinker with electronics, there's a near 100% chance you already have a multi-bit screwdriver set that already has all the torx bits you could ever want.

  • I ultimately went for the OLED steamdeck, the go has more bells and whistles but I feel like the steamdeck suits my needs more.

  • I cannot support Valve on this as they were extremely dishonest. They flat out lied to protect the sale of older models knowing full well they already had the oled in development.

  • Nice clickbait, it's all anyone has been talking about actually.

  • You are wrong. The oled deck uses the exact same ANX7580 as the LCD used. The only difference between the two is the power. The protocol (and chipset) is the same as before.

  • I'd like to think that every household has torx set. Why was that described as an issue?

  • 1:10 Wonder #1 😃
4:58 I prefer mice that have that red light. 🔴 Sometimes blue or even white. 🔵⚪
I like the looks of the Lenovo Legion Go more, but the cable placement and lack of parts to the general public is no good. 😬

  • To be honest , switch is great its fun to play platform games on hand held however, i dont know who wants to play AAA games in little screen in metro subway etc

  • SteamDeck 650 dollars 1to with 1200×800 screen you can customize every button, assign what you want. Legion 2k screen JUST WHY, AAA games looks bad with 720p resolution, you cant customize your buttons.

  • Steam last year: Nah steamdeck refresh isn't coming, steam deck 2 wont be coming soon either.

Out of nowhere: Steamdeck OLED is here guys its good trust me

  • Sick and tired of low capacity ram it's been 20 years. My phone has 12 gigs of ram. My watch has 4gigs. A mini gaming PC should have 32

  • The fact that Philips drivers are in every household is an issue since the chances these are the correct size are low and users tend to just use any old Philips driver massively increasing the chance of stripping the head.
