Aux antipodes du transport moderne, le Kwai, une des dernières goélettes de transport a voile, assure l’approvisionnement des iles de la Ligne, perdues dans l’ocean Pacifique. Il transporte également des passagers entre les iles et perpétue ainsi le lien sociale en assurant un contact avec le reste du monde.
C’est a son bord que Carine Camboulives et Manu Bouvet, chasseurs de vagues et de vent installés a Maui depuis 20 ans embarquent avec leur 2 enfants. Leur destination: l’ile de Fanning et ses vagues prometteuses. Ils s’y font déposer en esperant que la goelette repassera bien les chercher. Entre temps ils rencontrent Bruno, un autre Francais exilé du Pacifique; Robinson des temps moderne Bruno a choisi Fanning il y a 30 ans. Dans la petite pension ou il recoit les tres rares visiteurs qui arrivent jusque chez lui, Bruno partage, avec Manu et sa famille un mode de vie a l’opposé de celui de la société moderne et un terrain de jeu aquatique exceptionnel.
At the opposite of modern transportation, the Kwai is one of the last sail powered cargo ship on earth. It is the only link between the Line islands, a myriad of atolls spreads over thousands of square miles of Pacific Ocean and the rest of the world. When its load allows it, the Kwai embarks passengers. Carine Camboulives, Manu Bouvet and their 2 daughters have been looking for empty waves and off the beaten path destinations for years. This is a trip for them. They embark the Kwai to get dropped of on Fanning Island, an atoll with no water or electricity, hoping the Kwai will be back a few weeks later to pick them up.
They share with us a unique story made of surprising encounters including Bruno, a modern day Robinson, extreme isolation, amazing kiteboarding sessions and empty perfect waves. A land where the notion of sustainability is a matter of life & death.
