  • Radio simulation, using the internet as an antenna, so much for a once proud wireless hobby, nevertheless a great video, now going back to real radio work.

  • Why doesn't this work like pi-star? Setup is to complicated.

  • Whyb would you want to buy an inferior knockoff pirated bootleg SHARI for the similiar price as the original made by Ham for Hams? Come on gentleman, lets have loyalty for those who serve us. Their different SHARI nodes can be bought complete with RPI too. They have tested the knockoff versions and show a page with details of these sorry quality pirate versions.

  • I'll have to check one of the meshtastic antennas that I got to see if it will work well at the frequency I end up setting mine adapter with. I'm a bit curious as to why the team doing the dev didn't integrate a USB Hub in the box so that the device would only need a single interface on the Pi. It's not critical, but with the spacing they have set up, it obstructs the Ethernet interface on Pi4 and 5 systems. Yes you can connect those via wifi, but since both offer PoE options, that's broken unless you use a pair of extension cables. Though there are lots of hubs on the market that one might be able to use as well, just think it would have been nice if it was integrated into the device.

  • I'd be very tempted to dissect the provided antenna to find out what's going on in there.

  • Hi, @techmindsofficial. I am planning to buy a raspberrypi. Which one would you recommend 3, 4, or 5?
    Thanks

  • I am what technical but when I watched this video just to set it up I think this is so complicated just to set it up! I wish good luck to people around the world that are willing to play with this. It just shows the many technical stuff you can do with a simple Raspberry Pi 3+.

  • this would have been awesome if it was able to use the pi header instead of usb.

  • Oh my days all the haters are out in force 🤣 This hobby has something for everyone and communication is the main thing and some folks don’t have the luxury of towers etc .Modes like this are perfect for such folks!

  • Where did you buy the antenna from Matt?
These units are a clone of the early shari i think

  • Certainly not my bag, whatever happen the days of just calling out on a vhf/uhf repeater!

  • Asterisk's voice (She's called Allison).. All Asterisk voip engineers know her 😀

  • So when are we going to get a ringway manchester x techninds collab?

  • Ive set up atleast a half dozen or so of these on networked GMRS repeater networks over the years.

  • While the technology that one connects together, a bit like hot rodding a car in the 60's, is cool beans. I can't say here in the States repeater use whether direct or via IP appeals to me due to some pretty horrible behavior on repeaters. Maybe you Brits are more civilized, hope so none the less & enjoy.

  • I like it, but it's not going to look very neat on my shelf. 😔

  • Hi Matt, I was listening on Hubnet the day you were on air testing your new node. You sounded very good. I was listening on my new Openspot4 Pro cross moding from YSF on my Yaesu FT70.
    All the best David M0DUU

  • Could do the same thing with my cell phone, so can my unlicensed niece.
