The Foundation

This is my first video since long time. I am going to take some time here and a create the foundation of Arch Linux by doing a base install. There are a lot of info here about utilities used and they should provide you with a deeper understanding on to manage your system. This is the base on top of which you’ll be able to complete the system with a DE or a WM. The next video with Sway is going to build on top of this one.

  • Literally the best dual boot arch install video I've found!

  • It didn't work. After giving the gdisk command gtp wasn't present in partition table.

  • what a great video. I can't wait for the next one.

  • I'm following your video about "installing archlinux to usb with hybrid bios & uefi" from 3 years ago. It work great.
Then i watch this video, there is so much difference. That make me wonder.
Can you make the new tutorial for installing to usb with hybrid boot? And does btrfs good for usb?

I use 16Gb usb to small but it's work with arch.

I pray that you and your family are always healthy and happy

  • Hello Ermanno!
    LMDE6 is out!
Can You make a video about "expert install" with lvm, encryption and btrfs subvolumes?
Thank You for all of your videos!!!

  • Thank you so much sir <3 So pleased to see you back … <3

  • Hello Ermanno, may i ask is it possible to a make new video for windows and linux dual boot installation guide? I know i know new house and you have more workload in your life (as working father i can understand that) but if possible can you make a new guide video please?

  • Hey, love ur videos, especially this one, with the clear and complete arch base installation, I have two questions, is it mandatory to create the home sub-volume, idk cuz I’m new to btrfs, and are you going to make a similar awesome video like this about a conplete post installation, the continuation of this video

  • Glad to you again. This popped up just when I needed it. The archinstall script quit working for me. This video got me back on arch. Best wishes my friend.

  • Glad to see you again! We need encrypted btrfs with hyprland de setup guide.

  • Please do a video regarding installation of hyprland on archlinux, in a step-by-step manner, as a continuation to this video

  • Notice for anyone watching this video now: systemd-254.2-1 is currently broken on BTRFS. Downgrading to 254.1-1 appears to fix the problem.

  • This video is incredibly useful, I'm installing Arch for learning purposes, and how you explain things is really clear and concise. Thanks for this awesome material!

  • Hey Sir Ermmano, does zram affect the battery life of a laptop running arch? I am using a thinkpad laptop, what do you think is better tlp or auto-cpufreq? Do you have any tips to increase the battery life of a thinkpad? As I currently have one and planning to use it on university.

  • I happy that you are back. Really like your channel and the way how you lead us. Question, did you tried NixOS and its Nix package manager? Seems to be challenging as Arch is. Maybe you could shoot some video about. Thanks! Antoni

  • Hallo, Ermanno.
    Glad to see you again.
Firstly, I want to apologize for ask you a off-topic favor.
I watched a video that you install I3 on Debian 11. I use Debian 12 and I would like to try wayfire, but I do NOT know how to start because I have only used Gnome and XFCE. I wonder if you would make a video teaching us how to install correctly and configure a simple and functional desktop with wayfire on Debian.
Thanks and I desire you the best regards.
    Auf wiedersehen!

  • Ermanno, you're an amazing teacher. This was a class taken about the system. Learned a lot through the entire process. I'm just a beginner on Arch and was trying without success installing the SO. Even used the archinstall script but was facing sound issues. Thank you so much for the detailed explanation on each step of the process. I loved it and will wait for the follow up (if it's not already on the channel – I'm about to look for it yet). Really my friend, I can't thank you enough for this lesson. Greetings from Brazil.
