The Importance of Training & Certification for Open Source

Open Source lowers the barrier of entry, not only for organizations to leverage open source technologies to build their products and services, but it also makes it easy for people to learn on their own and build a career around these technologies. Most leading maintainers of open source projects, including Linux, are self-taught. However, when you want to work in production and in an enterprise environment, you do need some professional training and certification to ensure that you do know these technologies inside out. The Linux Foundation has created many programs to help developers get training and certification needed for newer technologies; at the same time, it helps companies find talent that they can trust to manage their workloads. In this interview, we sat down with Tim Serewicz, Training Program Director at The Linux Foundation, to learn more about the importance of training and certification in the open source space and what work the foundation is doing in this space.
