  • That router is awful, don’t buy it. It’s cheap and you can even run pure openwrt on it but it’s unstable as hell, WiFi crashes 3 times a day. 160mhz is very very buggy. Stay away from it. I tested one for a week and end up sending it back to Amazon

  • I usually don't even click on these fully sponsored things, but I've been a fan of GL.iNet since I first bought that yellow mango thing. A while back I thought… what would be great? a big travel router with more performance, ports and multiple antennae. I might consider this 😀 just too bad that the antennae doesn't seem to be removable. I am helping someone with connectivity inside an RV and it would have been great to be able to mount the antennae outside the vehicle.

  • It seems it's not great.

"The situation with routers right now is not great. If you had asked me a short while ago I would have whole heartedly recommended the GL.Inet Routers (Flint or Flint 2…I have both)…However we had a severe hiccup here with Firmware in the past month. Lots of people were not happy with their WiFi performance on the new FLINT 2 Router which was running Open-WRT 23.05 and the open-source wifi driver. After a lot of complaints GL.iNet decided to throw us all on an OLD End-Of-Life Open-WRT version 21.20 because the more stable vendor WiFi driver currently only works with Open-WRT 21.20. I assume they are going to backport addon’s to work with Open-WRT 21.20 for the time being. Right now I cannot recommend this router to a new customer while this whole firmware turmoil exists. I am a former ASUS (Merlin) user (And actually still am for other routers on my network)…I would recommend right now that you look at the ASUS RT-AX86u PRO which has excellent performance and you can from time to time get it as low as $200 on Amazon ($219 right now)"

  • I bought a similar router for VR streaming to quest2, coz i couldnt make it run well over cable. Then oculus fixed the driver, and im just using it as a second router (the first handles wifi on our phones, the better one is just for my pc cable connection.. maybe i will use it again for vr since the connector on my headset seems to be disconnecting, but since i only now play dirt rally2 in vr, which is unplayable over wifi, i would have to play something else..

  • Need to look into the multi wan more. Have an ASUS router and their way of "load-balance" isn't great

  • I can't wait for software support to be dropped off after under 1 year by the vendor
But OpenWRT is a total 🔥addition. I hope they contribute to the development and don't just suck the soul out of opensource devs.

  • I absolutely heart my Synology RT2600AC, it's old but it's so incredibly stable and easy to use.

  • I used to like GL-Inet, but my Flint's WiFi ability had just gone for unknown reason making from it fancy switch. I would rather recommend MikroTik.

  • just gotta buy a router with features you will actually use, and any reputable brand should do well for most people

  • I've been looking for a no-nonsense WYSIWYG router, and Jake had convinced this was what I was looking for, but when I tried to buy it the website says they can't ship to my address (IL, USA)… 🙁

  • Got one after watching this video (no to Cox's absurd $15/month rent). First 30 minutes a lot of frustration, could not even reset it. But now it works like a charm. Even got WireGuard set up (but for this I had to watch one of the GL.iNet's support videos). Still do not get what the AdGuard does, because it does not block YouTube ads. Nevertheless, so far so good. And BTW, it is on sale right now.

  • When we got 2Gb Hybrid Fibre internet where I live, our ISP said they would provide us with an appropriate router, which I thought would save me having to spend a ton of money on a router. They provided me with one that had a single 2.5Gb port. So I bought one of these and connected the second port to a 5Gbe Network switch.

    These routers are absolutly fantastic.

One thing I found with it that I wish Jake had covered was the WiFi range on it. I live in a brick-built house. I set the WiFi signal strength to "low" and I can still connect to our WiFi network from 60ft away, down the street.

Never mind your ISP saying they guarentee coverage across your whole home using mesh pods they will provide. Just get one of these routers.

I can't recommend these things ennough. They are worth the money and they are the simplest routers in the world to set up.

  • I ordered one of these very recently and have been using it for a month or so and the range I'm getting from the 5Ghz network is just crazy; like well beyond 300 feet AFTER going thru multiple walls.

  • Dude runs VPN connection in his local network and is surprised how fast it is 😀 Test this while traveling few hundreds or thousands kilometers away from home, especially if you are connected to the "ultra fast hotel" network 😀

  • I would love Jake to do a Guide about all the network lingo and what are all the protocols, settings and how to open ports, how to forward, setup servers etc. IT was always black magic for me and would love to learn!

  • i need a similar priced thingie to run of off 4g/5g basicaly with a simcard slot. Any chance of covering something like that?

  • Would love to see Jake review something from MikroTik, knowing they make non-noob networking stuff

  • Wait… new product and not even a Wifi 6E? What a missed opportunity, who on earth is gonna buy a Wifi6 only router in 2024???
Anyways, besides that, great review Jake, keep them coming.

  • Good thing, that I can travel internationally with my wifi router.😅

I had that so often on vacation, that I wanted to use my own router but it didn't have the correct power plug. 😂

  • I'm an early beard buyer of this router and I use a lot of opemwrt settings with this

  • Jake forgot to mention that you can access the OpenWRT UI also, unlocking even more features.

  • Once I went Ubiquiti I could never get into another router.
    I love modularity.

  • I think I found the one to try if the one provided when I switch to fiber in exactly two months isn't good.

  • I've been looking for something to buy for my new place that could do wireless PCVR with my quest 3 and this looks like it would be perfect for that and also make it, so I shouldn't have to upgrade for a long time.

  • It took pausing during the three frames that showed it, but it looks like this has the same weakness as just about every other router out there when it comes to IPv6: no proper firewall support. I'm guessing that means it's a pure everything on/everything off switch, because that seems to be the only support any home router offers for it. Come on, we're supposed to be transitioning away from IPv4, why does everything still have flimsy AF support for IPv6.

  • I absolutely love this and was going to get it untill i remembered wifi 7 speeds… Might need to wait😭

  • Is there any reason to use pfsense instead of this for a small home network with maybe a clan for personal, guests and for iot devices?

  • Damn. I just bought a router ~6 months ago. This has much better hardware for the same price.

  • I think for 95% of us, none of us care about all the specifics. What we wanna know is how stabile the unit is. Nothing is worse than a Wi-Fi router that needs to be reset all the time.

  • No comments regarding Wifi 6e? Am i crazy that i just bought 2x Unify U7 Pro APs with Wifi7?
Isnt the cool thing about Wifi 6(e!) that you have a 6ghz band?

  • 200$ is cheap router. Get the golden spoon out of you-know-where

  • Shame you have to choose between multiwan and 2.5G LAN,

  • 0:33 What's good in that having WiFi6 not having6E or 7 😅?
3:12 Whybit can't be both?..if One gets fail it becomes failover😅

  • Nice Hardware 😀👍
Regards from Europe from my channel Brothers 😀👍
