Intel showed us the goods on probably the single thing I’m most excited about from CES 2024, and it’s…Thunderbolt? Seriously, this is so cool. Not only that, but Wi-Fi 7 seems like it will actually be an increase that actually matters to regular people- as well as niche corner-case weridos like me lol

  • Correction: At 0:12 the text on screen says Mbps when it should say MBps. We're working on getting a fixed version uploaded! Thanks everyone who pointed that out.

  • Dude what the fuck. If we have that technology, what does the military have???!?!?!!

  • Wifi 7 sounds like "I paid for the whole router, I'm going to use the whole router"

  • I mean this would essentially remove the need for a capture card which would be amazing

  • $15 Intel X-520 and a $8 DAC cable and you have 10Gbe

  • I want this so bad so I can have my gaming rig stream to another room for my sim racing setup. I would also switch to thin clients and congregate all my compute.

  • What kind of wonders me is what the use for the "remote desktop"-Part is supposed to be. If the connection could be longer, then yes it would definitely make sense, but why would you want to use your portable console or laptop or something for playing video games or running some other software an entire meter away from your PC…..

I mean I get the multitasking part where you can use another device as a secondary screen, but even with that I don't quite get it since you then have the non-screen part of your device just laying around taking up space on your desk.

At last, what's the price difference? Wouldn't it be about the same price if not even more expensive than just buying a second screen? If you, as an example, had a cheapo laptop for doing notes and that kind of stuff on the go and a really beefy computer at home this would at least allow you to save a few Bucks by not buying that second screen, but since in most cases you have to buy a really expensive laptop and main board to even get thunderbolt and not just USB type c I would guess that in the end it's cheaper and simpler to just get yourself a second screen and a cheap laptop instead….

I apologise in advance if I made any mistakes in the last argument, it's been a while since I bought my last laptop and back then you had to buy a really premium style laptop/mainboard to even get thunderbolt and not just USB type c. I don't know if this has changed since, but since it's still considered as a special feature when buying devices I guess that youre still paying a premium just to even get thunderbolt the necessary ports…..

  • why Wifi 7 when it could be done with 5G (not the mobile network, but the radio technology, New Radio and the mmWave band)?

  • Funnily enough, Linus probably actually has a high-speed camera in his pocket. Modern phones have slow motion cameras at least up to 240fps which would translate to 4ms accuracy. Although a single photo might be enough for a rough estimate if a frame counter can be added.

  • I want to see a pratical wifi 7 video. Like linus has wifi 6 all over his house. Lots of people useing it. But no one needs faster than 250mb/s to their phone or laptop. Sure they could download a game faster on a laptop or xbox on wifi and thats cool and all but like is there any other practical use case? If thats the only practical home use case then sure. A wifi connection that is the same as your ISP speed is sorta the only target and thats usually 1 gig or slower.

  • Could this finally be the optimal solution for a dual pc streamer setup? Capture cards add latency, which is not viable in a competitive environment.

  • Please review the new 8k 3d tv just released 🙏 im commening on your most recent stuff hoping to get a review in return, thank you as your Inteligence never lacks hahaha forever may you continue to seek more knowledge and help other along the way, as youve helps me very much so along with purchases 😂 may you have a phenomenal life and stay in good health.

  • imagine how you can more annoy your siblings using this

  • outdated AIO with TB4 and up.. that cracked me up 😀

  • I think I already did this between mine and my fathers M1 Pro machines at close to 40 Gbit/s and those are TB4, why should it only be 20?

  • Wifi 7 sounds great too bad it will be too expensive to make sense to get. I do not know if it is the predatory practices of manufacturers or my country but Wifi 5 routers that have not received updates in nearly a decade are the same price if not more expensive than when they came out. Wifi 6 prices make me weep and Wifi 6E makes me curl up in a ball. So cannot wait for Wifi 7 prices to be two arms and a leg and stay at that price for over a decade…

  • Okay, so nothing new? P2P TB was there in TB3 already. This works on USB4 as well

  • But why can't you do the same as thunderbolt with a high speed usb cable? It's still just data packets right?

  • What was that we used to have? PC Anywhere? Well sounds like it's back. I would love to see WiFi work this well. We'll see.

  • "Stop steaming your ears like you're broccoli" @ 13:35 lmfao. At least your guys's segues and adverts are entertaining (largely due to being ridiculous, like the best of them lol).

  • getting in the weeds on how new tech works is the content i want to see

  • 6Ghz is same room WiFi though. I'm 1 floor, directly underneath my WiFi 6E router (the same Asus shown) on my Pixel 8 Pro, and the 6Ghz signal is so poor that I'm either only getting a single bar or not getting the network at all.

  • Great vid as always, but enough with those terrible headphone juice adverts! Every vid has been plagued with them.

  • Feels like Linux "lets do the same thing, but differently"

  • "I don't have a slow mo camera in my pocket"

Umm yeah you do, your phone. 😭

  • Why didn't someone do this earlier 😩 please tell me we are going to be on usb-c for a long time 😅

  • My only fear with Wifi 7 is ever further marginalization of wired ethernet pre-wiring in new homes or support in devices because of lack of consumer demand because the average consumer is ill-informed/mis-informed/ill educated/mis-educated on the fact that wired will always be superior to wireless, especially where distance (both short and long) and mobility/portability are not requirements. If your printer or desktop sits next to your router, why use wifi, just plug it into ethernet. You need low latency and reliable connectivity, go ethernet. Peak speeds with minimal fluctuation, ethernet again. Wifi 7 MIGHT change my mind about MoCA 2.5 (and supposedly 3.0 soon) and PLC (either HomePlug AV2 2000 or G.hn) being superior to wifi as alternatives when ethernet isnt't an option or can't easily be run.
