Tidy Transcriptomic Analysis of Single-cell and Bulk Data
From the R Medicine Virtual Conference 2023
Tidy transcriptomics is a concept that applies the principles of R tidiness to single-cell transcriptomic data. Tidiness allows for the representation of information in a two-dimensional, tabular format where variables are in columns and observations are in rows. This structure enhances scientific understanding of biological data and facilitates data analysis and reproducibility. The adoption of a tidy and consistent data frame makes it easier for the community to develop modular and endomorphic tools for data manipulation, visualization, and analysis. The integration of these tools into a workflow using a pipe operator enables robust, reproducible, and human-readable data analysis. In this workshop, we will introduce the concept of tidy transcriptomics and its benefits for single-cell transcriptomic data analysis. Participants will explore the tools and packages that have been developed for tidiness in transcriptomics, including the tidyseurat, tidySingleCellExperiment and tidybulk. Through hands-on activities and examples, participants will learn how to manipulate and visualize transcriptomic data using the tidy framework.
