To search contents of files in Windows Server 2008 R2

1. Prepare

– DC1 : Windows Server 2008 R2

– Files in C: drive have contents :

+ File A : aa aaa aaaa aaaaa

+ File B : bb bbb bbbb bbbbb

+ File C : cc ccc cccc ccccc

2. Step by step

– DC1 : search contents of files using key words “ccccc” and “bbbb”

+ Click “Windows Explorer” – Computer – C: drive – Type at “Search Local Disk (C:)” :

+ ccccc === No items match your search

+ bbbb === No items match your search

+ Click “Server Manager” – Roles – Add Roles – Select “File Services” – Next to “Role Services” : Select “Windows Search Service”

– Volumes to index : Select “Local Disk (C:)” – Install.

+ Start – Change how windows Searches – Advanced – File Types tab

– How should this file be indexed ? : choose “Index Properties and File Contents” – OK

+ Click “Windows Explorer” – Computer – C: drive – Type at “Search Local Disk (C:)” :

+ ccccc === Find it at “File C”

+ bbbb === Find it at “File B”
