To search contents of files in Windows Server 2012 R2

1. Prepare

– DC11 : Windows Server 2012 R2

– Files in C: drive have contents :

+ File A : aa aaa aaaa aaaaa

+ File B : bb bbb bbbb bbbbb

+ File C : cc ccc cccc ccccc

2. Step by step

– DC11 : search contents of files using key words “ccccc” and “bbbb”

+ Click “File Explorer” – This PC – C: drive – Type at “Search Local Disk (C:)” :

+ ccccc === No content find out

+ bbbb === No content find out

+ Click “Server Manager” – Manage – Add Roles and Features – Next to “Features” : Select “Windows Search Service” – Install.

+ Start – Change how windows Searches :

+ Modify – Change selected locations : select “Local Disk (C:)” – OK

+ Advanced – File Types tab – How should this file be indexed ? : choose “Index Properties and File Contents” – OK

+ Click “Windows Explorer” – Computer – C: drive – Type at “Search Local Disk (C:)” :

+ ccccc === Find it at “File C”

+ bbbb === Find it at “File B”
