Ubuntu's move is awful …. as simple as that.
Tim Sweeney is either a genuine idiot or a contrarian comedian, because the Unreal Engine allowed builds for both Windows and Linux for years now. In theory, most of the work is done and shouldn't be hard to finish off as of now, and if a native build wouldn't work, then enabling Proton support is done essentially without any extra effort. I'm not surprised about it though, considering he unlisted most of the Unreal titles in the Epic store.
All hail the glorious eggroll for all his work on nobara
Linux getting better FPS than windows really shows the overhead of windows. Imagine if game developers would care about Linux and optimize it, Linux would be the clear winner. They could at least be neutral and don't build extra barriers to hinder Linux, but some devs especially in cooperation around epic games are so hostile about it, this really isn't necessary.
Epic wouldn't need to do hardly anything for Fortnite to work on Linux. Easy Anti Cheat and BattleEye have Linux support. It's just a matter of flipping a switch or two that would allow Linux PCs past the anti cheat. The game already boots with Proton, anticheat just kicks you from a match before you can do much.
ah the computerbase test for me it feels like cheating because nobara is made for gaming so it should win from arch & pop
Very nice synopsis of the Linus Torvalds' views on future of Linux. Also appreciated your salient thoughts on the hardware migration and needed support for legacy systems.
Cool, Microsoft discarded my computer like garbage, now Canonical is doing the same thing. Yeah, great, most users have enough money to run newer CPUs, so just screw the people who will never live long enough to save for another computer. The lives of poor people are just so god damned fun. I can't even get my internet connection to stay stable long enough to make a comment without copy and paste. Oh well, make it hurt. Make everything hurt. The data says it's okay to hurt poor people. We must like to be kicked when we're down, over and over and over until we're bleeding from every opening, otherwise we wouldn't be poor.
I have both an AMD FX-8350 and a refreshed FX-8370 workstations… Both are fitted with AMD RX-580 4GB GPUs.
They are my kid's computers and they are great computers for 1080p gaming and for school… Sources are unclear if they support the newer AVX extensions… A change to Ubuntu's "level" might force me to replace perfectly good – and performing – hardware…
I will check this out tonight to make sure…
Let old hardware die.
13:59, hey! That's my article! Linux senpai noticed me.
Regarding dropping support for older hardware, most distros dropped support for 32bit. Which is a shame considering one of the reasons to use Linux is to reuse reduce and lasty recycle.
"You found an obvious bag" 🤣😂
Just want to make your YouTube comments a little bit less toxic. You do an amazing job; please keep it up.
As of yesterday, I'm a full-time Linux user. Zorin 17 (beta) converted me fully, though I had been dual-booting Windows 11 and Zorin 16.3 Core until then.
Team Linux Mint should keep an eye on Ubuntu's new move .
Most of their user base is from windows migrants & older pc/laptop folks .
For this type situation i think LM team developed LMDE 😊
A lot of people at The Linux Foundation, including Linus himself, seem to love to take a lot of money from Big Tech. I don't trust Linus at all.
Glad to see Ubuntu pushing new CPU features. It would be nice to give the option on install. I don’t like canonical, but I like to see this. 5:17
i have old 3700k it runs really well and runs windows 11, if linux drops it probably going to have dto change to windows.
My first thought was, that Ubuntu drop i386 support, because Debian will do it. I tend to use Ubuntu (or Ubuntu based OS) for my old computers, especially old laptops with two graphic cards. It is so easy to install both a Nvidia and Intel driver and switch between them in Ubuntu. I have not found another Debian based dist where driver installation was so easy. My old computers (mostly Sandy Bridge based) will miss Ubuntu in the future.
I do want to wish you a Merry Christmas, and a happy and healthy New Year. And tender Thanks for a very good year in 2023.
they dont need to bring fortinite to steam, just make sure it wont break on things like Heroic or Lutris
