  • Even with a minimalistic distro, they should make the basic installer. Having to do all that, just to have a base system is a bit ridiculous.

  • Have you ever looked at refind as your bootloader? Its got a real pretty graphical boot menu

  • If a company uses WordPress I'm out

  • Got Chimera Linux installed on aarch64 / ppc64 / ppc64le / riscv64 inside QEMU machines just two weeks ago for the purpose of having a few more headless build targets.

My experience with the installation process was a blast: worked on first try despite the specificities of partioning for PowerPC machines, online documentation was clear and straightforward.

If no distro so far made you perform a CLI-only install of an OS, then Chimera Linux can be a relevant introduction to the subject. Installation difficulty is lower than that of Arch or Gentoo, but higher than Alpine. Just follow the documentation and you'll be fine.

  • ‘shutdown -r now’ works just fine on just about every init system (even ‘I can do it better’-systemd. Just a heads up for the next time reboot gets elusive

  • … but completely not even mentioning Slackware, which is the oldest, still maintained, non-systemd distro o.O

edit: oh, but of course you actually did in the end. Cudos! ( 2:18:05 )

  • why do you keep calling devuan duvian? devuan can be derrible af, but it at least deserves to be spelled correctly

  • Did I miss the chmod to put Titus as the owner of all in ~ ?

  • i get a kick out of anyone snagging a 'minimal' iso of anything debian based and expecting to have a good user experiance.

  • i would love to see you try out SerenityOS. the build doesnt take that long ( around 15 minutes using 10 threads on my machine ) and they have scripts to automate everything except non-wrapped dependecies so you dont get caught in the c++. they write almost everything from scratch, kernel, drivers, tcp/ip and crypto stacks, and a browser. the code is clean and nice to look through as well

  • Void is awesome! One step ahead of Fedora, one step behind Arch. Easily the most stable distro I've ever used right after Debian stable of course. Also the Void package list itself is huge. Plus: there's the xdeb package, which converts compatible Debian packages to XBPS (void) packages. So you can basically install any package you want. xdeb is not officially supported though, because the maintainers argue that some packages might screw up some /usr directories/files due to Debian conventions being applied. I'm using it myself to install VS Code and Thorium, no problem whatsoever.

  • Devuan does have a minimal installer iso. It looks similar to Debian’s installer and differs from the live iso.

  • serenityos is something I'd like to daily if I could

  • What is the new tab extension you are using?

  • what extension do you use Chris to add to your to do list in thorium browser?

  • I tried Mercury and applied all privacy settings. It is working great for me!

  • I am on debian stable rn, maybe i will try Artix someday with runit i guess

  • Sorry maybe dumb question but what font do u use in your browser? It look quite good and i cant find anything like that

  • isn't 3dpchip just another Snappy Driver Installer Origin?

  • what is opi? could not find it in the aur/arch packages

  • I think void is probably the best of the bunch. Being independent means it's not a "tear out systemd and hope it works" distro.( Though those distros can also work well, especially for people that are used to the parent distro.) And once you install vpm, the package manager syntax becomes similar to the likes of apt and dnf.

  • I would like you to check out the issues on the WinUtil project, Thank you 🙂

  • System-D-less distributions could be a viable option if it's not so cumbersome in the set up process….
