  • i like ubuntu. i dont have to have the latest and greatest. as long as its stable and i can get my work done and its compatible with devices such as a printer, then im good.

  • Ubuntu my choise of native machine..Alway back to Ubuntu when test another distros.

  • Been trying the Ubuntu 22.04 development version for a couple of days and have been very pleased with the aesthetics, performance and stability. The user interface and desktop interface are top notch, really beautiful and customizable. Well done for the Ubuntu team. Great LTS release! Congratulations

  • People unironically complaining that Ubuntu is not bleeding edge? I rather have stability, thanks.

  • My ext4 drive keeps getting corrupt while running. There haven't been any reboots or anything and it's still having issues. The drive is not old, nor dying. Any ideas?

  • Ubuntu is my favorite Linux Distribution. Because I have Windows 10 and I like Ubuntu, I decided to dual-boot Windows 10 and Ubuntu 21.10. I wanted to make a video on how to do that, but I can't because I tested it myself and it didn't work.

  • 7:15 on the contrary, fedora's gnome is like google pixel stock android. It's not bad, but others ship changes for the sake of changes just to standout (even if in a bad way). Fedora is the most polished gnome. But it does not standout. Others want flashy and bills and whistles but they are not stable.

  • 5:20 fedora not only shipped gnome 40 but also shipped 41. But ubuntu 21.10 was unable to ship 40, even worse ubuntu 22.04 most likely won't be able to do that too.

  • Snaps have pros and cons. I however want the control over what is snap and what not and when to update. For desktop I don't mind snaps much as long as it works fine with all features and my usecases. For server installations snap is way more pain at the moment.

  • I have tried this on 4 machines, none new. There were Network, Graphic and Package problems in all installations. I was not able to resolve all of them, been using Ubuntu from 2005, this 21.10 is pathetic on Graphics on middle range (2 with i5/3.5MHz + NVIDIA) but worked OK on older (2012) laptop, a little hiccup with Bluetooth .
I don't understand why you can't acknowledge that there are good arguments against 'snap' no matter what Ubuntu corporate think!.
Firefox is not installed via snap on Minimalist install of 21.04 or upgrade.

  • Are they trying to scare people with that wallpaper? xD

  • Thanks for the very thorough review. Xubuntu 21.10 comes with a much newer kernel than Linux Mint 20.2 & is well worth trying – especially if you have a fairly new Asus motherboard.

  • ubuntu 21.10 ….was not good for my laptop….I will wait for ubuntu 22….I will stick with 21.04…..Ubuntu needs a change.. the look or colors ..but it works good…Thank you.

  • Your reasoning at 11:35 ff. is (again) flawed.
You argue, that something like this, using snap packages for Firefox, can be expected, because the distro is backed by a commercial company, so you don't know, why people are surprised.
Well, being surprised or not is something different from being unhappy, isn't it? I can expect (here in Central Europe) cold and rainy weather in April. Does that mean I have to be happy about it? If there are 4 days of sunshine in April, am I then not allowed to hope for another sunshiny day?
It doesn't make any sense at all. Firefox is a snap package, now, but Thunar, Inkscape, Libre Office aren't, or are they? But though, Canonical is a Company. So where is the powerful argument, why Firefox needs to be a snap pack?

And what are the users unhappy about – that Canonical is a corporation or that Firefox is a snap package? Do you really don't know any argument to cite, why people are unhappy about the snap stuff, or do you just don't want to cite them, because you have no good defense? What is the reason for simulating such lack of knowledge?

In the end, you make the argument, that people could choose to use Debian, if they aren't ok with snap packages, so you admit that people CAN be unhappy with them, despite Canonical being a corporation. But do you claim this is the only difference between Ubuntu and Debian, or might there be other reasons which hold the people by Ubuntu?

  • I started out programming on and administering UNIX Sys5, connecting 2 SUN stations via COAX and configuring SUNOS by hand and transitioned to Redhat. I've been out of that realm since pre-2010. I'm starting to build a new HW system; where is a good place to jump back into the Linux world (Ubantu, Mint, etc)? Investigating audio and video options. Tired of the Windoze drama; will probably dual-boot. Virtual machines? A lot here; looking bullet points, links, directions to investigate.

  • I agree Jay- if the developers want a LTS and an interim version then the interim should really include “bleeding edge” or near bleeding edge software packages. Otherwise what’s the point? Super stable and stable?

  • I have a question regarding an issue i have been having with my laptop. I have a thinkpad x1 extreme gen 2. On battrery power (windows10) the battery life is around 2 hours. I have tried multiple fixes but nothing seems to work. Has any one got any ideas ?
