It’s that time of the year again and we have a new Ubuntu and a new Fedora, both releasing at the exact same time. Fedora 39 and ubuntu 23.10 have dropped with refreshed desktops, updated kernels and the newest of everything.

Ubuntu and Fedora, both are two of the biggest and hottest Linux distos in the world. But the question that everyone has is, which one of these is the best? Which one of these two should I pick?

To help you answer that, I’ll take you on a deep dive with Ubuntu 23.10 and Fedora 39. We’ll compare their performance, the user interface, stability, software availability, the gaming scene and a lot more, side by side. We’ll also objectively see- which of these two is the best.

I’ve been playing with the newest of Ubuntu and Fedora since they both hit beta and I’m really excited to share this video with you, because there’s a lot of interesting stuff that these two distros bring.

  • Yet another amazing 🎉 video explaining the differences of these two systems.

I completely agree with you. I was a long time Ubuntu user but somehow was not happy 😢 with its interim releases.

But since the day FEDORA 39 came out with GNOME 45, I was surprised by its stability & performance.

Thank you 🙏 again for such a helpful video & appreciate your hard work 🎉

  • Ubuntu 23.10 GPU Driver switching is nightmare.
*7840HS / 780M has no OpenCL or Radeon HIP support in Ubuntu 23.10
*In iGPU mode, no Optix, Cuda or OpenCL can be used from RTX4060.
*Phantom power draw from RTX4060 in iGPU mode, can only be fixed with Nouveau driver.
*Nouveau driver has no Optix, Cuda or OpenCL.
*Optix, Cuda and OpenCL need Nvidia mux switch on dedicated GPU.
    * Driver can not be switched when optimus is iGPU.
    * Any discrepancy between optimus and mux switch results infinity boot loop.
    * All the changes need restart.
    * Driver update messes up the driver switching panel.

  • It's 8-5 for ubuntu, Ubuntu wins.
Ubuntu interface and performance is better IMO.

  • Could you compare different LTS distributions ? Maybe Ubuntu LTS vs Pop OS LTS ? This could be useful for a work computer installation where it needs to be stable. Asking for a friend

  • I enjoy your videos a lot, burt always wonder what it would be like if you gave points out of (say) five for each cate4gory, rather than just a single point,. I think you might be able to come up with a more nuanced score… Keep up the good work!

  • hi Linux tex, actually i am new to linux , recently i downloaded fedora and the problem which i am facing is that the terminal automatically starts entering a ~~~~~ this constantly and even if i press backspace and when i leave the backspace key it starts happening again.can you please help me with this

  • On appearance, I think it's worth mentioning that Ubuntu offers different accent colours out of the box in case you don't like the default orange.

  • Always using fedora 100%. Easy to use and actual up to date packages unlike Debian based distros.

  • You ignore the immutable Versions. Yes, Ubuntu Has a LTS Version, but i believe the future belongs to the immutable systems. More reliable, no issues on updates and extremely flexible as more and more awesome customized containers are getting available.

  • I don't agree with many of Canonical's decisions, however, Ubuntu is currently a better option for me.

  • I am using Fedora with KDE and it works like breeze.

  • whatever happens I hate Ubuntu btw I use fedora on my pc and LMDE on my laptop

  • Ubuntu would be a lot better if Canonical would stop trying to force snaps on everyone

  • Ubuntu is much better in 2023 compared to other distros. I think fedora 41 will be a super distro whit kernel 6.6 and dnf5, but right now Ubuntu is better.

  • On my Lenovo V14 Gen4 workin Fedora 39 only. There is bug in other Ubuntu kernels. So touchpad and keyboard not worked.

  • Everyone praises Ubuntu for it's look but to me it just looks dated and ugly. Maybe it's just not the color scheme for me.

  • These two corporations are singlehandedly responsible for causing all the bad issues in the community. Things like Telemetry, forcing Snaps on users, removing flatpak as a default installation, killing CentOS the most popular server distro, close sourcing Red Hat Enterprise Linux and thereby breaking a core principle of Free Software.

ALL Free Software and Linux loving people should BOYCOTT these two companies and switch to Community based distros like Linux Mint Debian Edition , Debian, Arch, Slackware, Gentoo and others.
Support Community distros who care about Freedom!

  • Great video and Fedora works great for me. I uses Fedora and Linux Mint on another machine. My Father has had a windows machine but he always seems to crash it. I let my father use my Linux Mint Machine for a month and never crashed it once. Just before I setup a new system what Linux Distro do people recommend for a new user?

  • damn they are tempting but i don't wanna destroy my Ultramarine yet 🤣😁😆 Maybe this weekend🤣🤣🤣🤣

  • Fedora Workstation 39 is crashing so much, usually at startup the moment I touch my mouse. I've also heard people had problems with Silverblue. I'm considering Tumbleweed until it's fixed, but I might just wait it out at the end.

  • 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

  • The only issue with fedora is dnf package. It's slow as hell.
