MATE is nostalgic because I started using Ubuntu when it looked like that. Unity as well because I used Ubuntu a lot around that time. Kubuntu is my new favourite though. But any of them are usable and I’m trying to learn to do more via the terminal anyway.
I use Kubuntu and i love it!
i use lubuntu and i can run war thunder on 4gb of ram. definitely recommend it for people with potato pcs
Ubuntu,Debian,Mint,Zorin, are nowadays only for high spec systems. Im running LM mate, but i will try kylin. And im not asian hi.
I liked the old windows 7 desktop themes. Ubuntu and Debian never gave me issues. Only there ugly desktops and they needed a good fast CPU.
I like the BGM.
Why you did't upload any video recently about linux 🙁
It's not apt and it's not apt-get, it's nala 👍
Ubuntu studio on my music production laptop, lubuntu with the Ubuntu studio add ons on my old laptop
I tried many distros but I ended up staying on Ubuntu, I use regular Ubuntu on my main PC and Kubuntu on my laptop, no regrets at all, many people don't like Ubuntu but it is so far the most consistently good experience I had on Linux
I have tried all of Ubuntu's flavours and honestly if I had another PC I would give it a try to Ubuntu Budgie for a daily drive!
A video very well done. For me I started My journey with Lubuntu in the late 2016 to revive my grandfather computer, I ended up losing all his file as I were inexperienced. Then I proceeded with Xubuntu, very good but that wasn't what I was looking for. I tried Mate to, but nope. Then I realised there were more than (flavour + ) Ubuntu distro, so I looked to something very small for a cd drive bay , like Damn small Linux , or the tiny core Linux(If i remember correctly) It was bare bone, but I liked it. But it was not my final destination.
Then later In my life I started to be interested in IT and cybersecurity so I saw the almighty Backtrack ( Now renamed Kali Linux ^-^ ) and Hooo boy , love at first sight, not because of the edgy 2010s hacker style , but because the base it was build upon was splendid, I'm talking about Debian ofc, Now Debian Based distros are my no-brainer choices. I love Debian <3 . Now I'm starting to dive again on small distros like FreeBSD or OpenBSD or monowall. The untouched distros for me, his gentoo and Arch . I don't know If I want to ever touch them? So guys, give me some though about this story of mine and If I shall start to explore arch and gentoo.
Thanks for the excellent video!
I loved the quality of the presentation.
Keep up the good work!
Ubuntu Unity is still to this day, the best, and most innovative desktop environment, and for apps with massive menu selections, the HUD, which is like a google search for the menus and submenus, even with "fuzzy search", made using those big complex programs a breeze, because you just tap alt and search what you want to do in the app, rather than moving the mouse, clicking and searching and scrolling through menus and submenus.
the global menu could be placed at the top panel, like in mac os, or it could be integrated into the window's title bar, LIM it's called (locally integrated menus); just mouse over the title bar to reveal the menu. that's brilliant.
the scrollbars were also smart, overlay scrollbars, you mouse over the side where the scrollbars are, anywhere on the side and the scrollbar appears just under your mouse, no matter where it is, and there was a pill with 2 parts, you could drag it or click the top or bottom part for page up/down.
the dash had many great and innovative features in lenses and scopes, and webapps integration was something never seen before or since.
there was also multitouch gestures still unmatched by modern desktops, and the keyboard shortcuts were the most logical and most complete.
i could go on and on. unity isn't as feature rich as it was in 2014 LTS release, that was its peak, after that, canonical/ubuntu started replacing their own unique stuff with GNOME software so as to not have to spend so much time and money on maintenance, so if you want to try Unity at its peak, 14.04 is the one.
the new maintainers are trying to modernize it and i wish them the best. i still use unity if i can, and i highly recommend it for all users, power users and new users. once you learn its workflow, you will have the most screen real estate and get things done faster than ever on any desktop.
is it really spelled /ma-te/? I always spelt it as /meit/ lol
Kubuntu my favorite and the one I daily use.
I started with Ubuntu which I don't use anymore, but Ubuntu Mate is for me the best one on the family cause the DE is versatile, powerful and easily to personalize, all at the same time, in my opinion.
i discovered ubuntu around 2013… and i really liked how fast it was with unity desktop… i still use ubuntu unity, but i'm tempted to try lubuntu now…
Still using Xubuntu until now, so powerful and elegant , thanks for your hardwork to makes this video
Gnome43 is the first version I actually like.
NO more ubuntu
me when no Linux Mint
but for real how did you make a video this good and not have at least 10,000 subscribers
my frist distro was Xubuntu tested on virtualbox… now i use endervourOS as a unique OS on my PC
Well done, and helpful… I've been an Ubuntu user since 2004 and still learned from your video. You have a new sub, thanks!
I wish they offered something like Gubuntu with vanilla GNOME
My favorite flavor of Ubuntu is Debian
I don't like these flavors. Do you have Sprite?
Really well made video but what happend to Ubuntu DDE (Deepin Desktop Edition) ???
I really like the mint flavor hehehe
Great video! very informative, easy to digest and relaxing. Even my grandma could become an expert on Ubuntu with this video!
As a former Ubuntu user, I really like this video! I started my Linux Journey with Ubuntu MATE back in the mid-2010s and I really did like that distro. Even though I don't use it, and I'm not sure how I feel about it Ubuntu always have a special place in my heart
Ubuntu Sway?
