But, will it run desktop applications and allow access to the command line? In my opinion that is the downfall of Ubuntu. In trying to encourage people to use it they dumb it down to unseen levels.

But Microsoft has still some advantages then any kind of Linux distro. Microsoft has not a window manager, which never changed since 1986.
And thats not the only one… Microsoft also has not an creepy package manager like apt. If you ever used archlinux before, you know how much better pacman is.
But the big problem of Microsofts Windows is, that's not anything like Unix.
