Ubuntu Mate 20.04 – Still Linux For Human Beings After 16 Years

Ubuntu Mate 20.04 is a distribution for human beings in the sense that it doesn’t require you to be a Linux guru, and that hasn’t changed in the core distribution over the last 16 years.

Ubuntu Warty Warthog was released in 2004, which coincidentally was the year I first started using Linux. At the time I was amazed at how different, and how much easier it was than the other distros that existed at the time. I’d go as far as to say that if Ubuntu hadn’t launched in 2004 I very much doubt I would have stayed with Linux.

So what’s this latest LTS release about. Well as expected it’s a well put together, solid distro. There’s been lots of under the hood improvements
and these just add to what was already, in mind mind at least, the best Ubuntu flavour and the real successor to the original Ubuntu desktop experience

Give it a try, even if you only fire it up in a virtual machine
