Ubuntu NEEDS to switch to this…

Check out Linode! http://www.linode.com/techhut $100 – 60 day credit on new Linode accounts for TechHut viewers.

This is an alternative to the official Ubuntu Software application written in flutter. Even in it’s alpha state, I like it MUCH better than the official Ubuntu Software application.

  • gnome software stock is pretty shit too tho (in fedora).

  • This has officially been picked up by Canonical!

The edge (aka unstable) branch of the official snap-store package now installs this very application instead, making it therefore official. We do not currently know if the Store will be finalised into Ubuntu as an update to the Snap Store, but only time shall tell.

This comment won't be updated if it is pinned before such a day when the new official Snap Store comes to Ubuntu.

  • I do not get these freezes and I daily ubuntu. Might be a swap space issue.

  • They Should Learn with Linux Mint Team, how to make a Fast App Store

  • Why do people continue to use Ubuntu? Fedora is just SO MUCH BETTER!! Their implementation of GNOME is absolutely exquisite! And, as a side note, Canonical knows exactly where they can stick their Snaps!! Flatpaks are just better.

  • I love how the Linux community thinks that making 1,000 forks of things will somehow make things work better. It literally just makes things worse by having so many different "standards" for programs and none of them work optimally because of it. Maybe we should spend the proper amount of time to make ONE thing work properly before we make 1,000 forks that don't work properly.

  • I would hope that they'd offer Flatpak support, eventually, as that's my preferred universal package manager!

  • One of my biggest complaints right now about Ubuntu is that I need 3-4 applications just to update my system. Gnome software if I want to update my flatpaks, Ubuntu software if I want to update snaps, Ubuntu updater if there's a kernel update because it's the only one that conveniently removes unused old kernels and of course, command line for snaps when the update does not work like a recent Firefox update that kept notifying but wouldn't actually install.

  • i don't really care between Flatpak or Snaps, i've been using both. I recently upgraded to 22.04.1 from 22.04 and Snaps Firefox work without issue (load actually faster than before with a huge amount of tabs)

  • what?? ubuntu have a gui software app?? i forget about that. never used it. it open only if i mistakenly double click .deb file.

  • I haven't used the ubuntu software store in so long lol

  • Gnome 42 software center is much better than Ubuntu Software or this somewhat dumb Flutter idea. All Ubuntu needs to do is drop their awful fork.

  • I really hope Canonical really adds this app as standard, it has no comparison to the previous one.

  • It's very cool to see a fan, making a better software than original, which is maintained by more people. I really want to see this being defaulted even in other distros. And add icons and progress bar for Debian packages.

  • if you keep doing those enhances it will eat a lot of ram, and ubuntu is about light things, if you want charged apps install a charged OS

  • one thing why Linux OS desktop left behind is because lack of money to support the whole system…later on bunch of Linux distro that makes the costumer confused ….

  • Hehe, there again linux ego exist
"They need do this, not that, uugh i will create a new distro of my own"

What if i told you to create powerfull pdf editor + ocr for free? No? Thats right, you just complain :
    1. Dekstop
    2. Software store
    3. Compability

If you all speak on same destination, world of linux will more wonderfull

  • Ubuntu sucks nowadays, better getting back to manjaro or fedora or mint would be a great choice, arch does better also but it's for advanced persons!

  • Why is snap even a thing given it's slow launch speed? How was this even approved at the first place? Is it because of Linux fragmentation where app developers have no standard solution like on Windows?

  • Linode hate me icant open legit account with my legit info

  • Never had any issues with the current store.
Only have issues with how Ubuntu handles the right mouse button. Currently it reacts to click down, while every other desktop reacts to click up. Resulting in many right button clicks not showing a context menu :(.
