Upgrading Apple Silicon Soldered SSDs

In this video, I go over the process of upgrading Apple Silicon Macs, specifically an M1 MacBook Air in this case, to the maximum of 2TB of storage. This guide covers performing the upgrade on any machine with a standard M1 or M2 CPU (supports 2 NANDs only) that utilizes BGA110 NAND chipsets. In this instance, I successfully upgraded an odd education model M1 MacBook Air, from a single-NAND 128GB configuration, all the way to a dual-NAND configuration total of 2TB.

  • Can i boot into using only the logic board and external display . No battery, keyboard , touchpad, display . Only with the logic board and external display will it turn on ?

  • If the Mac I want to upgrade already has 2 nands
Do I still need to transplant those components?

  • is there a way to add a connector for a standard m.2 ssd ? that would be a great upgrade 😉

  • This is exactly the reason why you can't take apples environmental commitment seriously. They producing e-waste on purpose, cause a defective SSD means death for the device.

  • Did anyone ever succeed to do the same for the rams chips next to the m1 and m2?

  • Has anyone designed a NAND socket? It would be cool to be able to add sockets to these pads so that this could be done again easily. I did a quick google and saw 3D XPoint Zero Foot Print Test Sockets. I'm sure it's not worth the time or money but I like the idea of it.

  • Rip i recently upgraded to an m3 since i cheaped out on my m1 and got the base model. Now i have to wait for this method and asahi linux to catch up on these models

  • inb4 Apple starts to remotely brick machines whose Serial Numbers are not registered to have that capacity installed.

  • Holy shit man, you DID IT. YOU DID IT, you GIGACHAD! Finally! Apple soldered SSDs on their silicon is no more.

  • I wish there was a shop near me that did this kinda upgrade

  • Why is the process of simply upgrading the storage so complicated? Because Apple

  • bro im sorry if you have some sort of throat cancer or degenerative/congenital disease, but WTF is up with your voice? why are you loudly WHISPERING? it literally sounds like your vocal chords aren't activating. use your fucking balls when you speak man, you literally sound like you're afraid to project your voice.

  • Great video ! I notice you're not putting some sort of glue around the chips as it's the case from factory, isn't that gonna make this more fragile ?

  • I have a macbook air pro 2 max 64 gb memory and the performance are quite bad versus my 2 years old windows intel I9

  • oh my godddd soooo fuckin easy!!! highly recommend, ESPECIALLY if you're the type that needs to watch youtube tutorials before going to hardware modifications!

  • @dosdude1 very good tutorial. where did you found to download schematics? Where can I buy nands and programmer?
