Using a Netbook in 2024 – Is it any Good?
Netbooks! The teeny tiny little computers that could….. kinda. An underpowered solution for porable computing in the late 2000s that is obsolete today. But how usable are these things in 2024?

how to repair windows 7
I too had that netbook with intel atom
On an alt travel trip in the (2009) I met some Euros who were gushing how cheap the Walmart netbooks were (atom based). Netbooks were meant to travel and be abused. My EeePC traveled 25000 miles by bike. I miss it. Modern netbooks can charge off USB-c extra groovy.
I am going to need some assistance finding my way back to channels with names like frokfrdk and psivewri
These little guys are still good for emulated DOS gaming. I still use one for such thing, at least, until I get a real thing.
I remember back in those days, I had an HP mini 110, and back in those days, it ran webpages just fine, YouTube even played at at least 720p just fine. Now I can barely get google to even load
Supermium works on windows xp all the way up to 8.1 (maybe 10 when it gets unsupported). It's a chromium based web browser that supports legacy operating systems
These could do 720p on YouTube back in the day becasue it was only 30 frames.
43:40 That's my wifi adapter! It's awesome! Works on XP and up. Drivers are on the internet archive as Archer T2U Nano
I still have my acer aspire one aod270! Made in May 2012. Granted the hinge is borked, but it works. Upgraded the ram to 2gb of ddr3 ram. That's all the upgrading I did for it
I have that EeePC and previous model with puppy Linux ( BionicPuP 18.04) works great
I had that exacttt onee, its a little less rough and no webcam and missing stickers but it was uh… ok… (1st one in the intro)
I guess you could make another video and instal linux in one of them and am sure it will be useable
because i did this to my brother’s garbage notebook
I had an Acer Aspire One 722 back in the day, actually loved the keyboard! I miss that little fucker sometimes, gave it to a friend who used it for a few years.
Can't fault it, got my money's worth a few times over!
I used to have a netbook in 2015
whoops you have to put the cd in your computer
I used those netbooks as music players, old consoles emulation and to watch movies. They can still do that. I remember I found a working HP netbook on the trash in 2018
You should change your name to "Skill Issue."
I always wanted a Netbook with a serial port for server administration.
Net book aka Chromebook's long lost cousin twice removed
these netbooks can actuallu manage more if you really want (without any linux) do you even compute brah 😀
Casual CRD user. Based.
Bill Gates killed the netbook. He wouldn't let the product line evolve, demanding that the machines use extremely low hardware specs and punishing anyone who went over those specs with high Windows licensing fees. Chromebooks don't have that problem because, of course, they're not using Windows.
youtube's html video player is utter resource hog and such crap tbh
the flash player had a looooot better performance, and you'd be better off using stuff like vlc to stream the yt videos
modern web dev is a shit
1:06:19 That's why the Toshiba netbook worked better – it was a dual core Atom, whereas all the other ones were single core.
It probably has mal ware on it
that hp is definitely from the dv series
the Nintendo 3DS XXL at 6:43 🫠
Think i found another channel I'll enjoy quite a bit, as a chronic laptop hoarder i shall enjoy this
I used Google Lens to translate the iTunes dialogue box –
Bonjour service not found. Requires Bonjour to share music with others, play music through ArPlay, connect to Apple TV, and use the Remote on Phone and iPod touch. To fix this issue, uninstall iTunes and then install iTunes again
I would love to see the netbook form factor come back, but with decent modern specs.
Strange that the first one was in Chinese – was there no way of changing it to English? At least it had Windows XP, which is arguably more useful than Windows 7 Starter on one of these really old devices.
Who thought it was a good idea to have a single core Atom paired with 1GB of DDR2 (or DDR3…) and a small HDD? The onboard graphics were useless too. These things would play GTA Vice City worse than a Playstation 2!
man I wanted that Aspire One when I was a kid so badly, there was a version that came with a pentium and it could run minecraft at 20fps and that was gold at the time for me!
A 1 hour long video?? Niceee
Also, I do remember my Samsung NC10, loved it to bits. I put Windows 7 on it, upgraded the ram to 2gb, the storage as well (no SSD as they were damn expensive) and it was solid tbh. I ended up installing linux on it and then.. sold it to replace it with idk what.. 🤔
For a few years when I was young the only pc I had was an Acer emachines potato netbook. It was considered budget even compared to these potatoes. But hey I was rocking the psp as a web browser before that so my standards were already at rock bottom.
How do you not have unlimited data in 2024?
dont forget to use eucalyptus oil
45:26 bro I have that exact same CD drive
Have you tried looking at the Task Manager or use Belarc Advisor to see what kind of computer the no-name one is?
I have that exact same HP
58:07 looks like a gold note 4/galaxy s5

HANNAH MONTANA LINUX
That power point presentation is so peak
Man it is not "4 in 1 card reader"! It literally says "4 in card reader" which means it reads foreign cards or whatever lol
i remember having a few of these before , i ended up using it so much the motherboard fried because they had bad quality control to them
I still own a HP Mini 311-1000nr that I did a board swap on for the one that had the full nvidia ION. I also flashed the hacked bios to overclock it and added a 2gb ram stick to max out the ram capacity to 3GB. It's fun to tinker with.
The problem with the netbooks of the mid 2000, 2010s is they all shipped with Windows. A great experience was only a Linux install away! I owned several and still have a Lenovo one. First matter of business, delete Windows.
I own the Alienware M11x, and the Clevo W110ER and yeah they're netbooks. but at least they have Intel Core i7s and dedicated NVIDIA GPUs. They might be the only 11.6 laptops that have dedicated graphics.
I got really nostalgic about the first netbook as it was my first ever laptop. My dad used it for a long time and then gave it to me (with Windows 10 installed! I've never used anything that horrible before…). I used it for a long time, although making it bearable with a lightweight Linux distro.
