  • Matt, did the 45watt powerbank eventually charge the camera any faster?

  • Why is the OMD M10 MARK IV a USB type A and not C? Is it still compatible with a power bank?

  • Does anyone know if the SmallRig HDMI & Type-C Adapter for BMPCC 4K & 6K Camera Cage 2960 is compatible with the SmallRig OM-1 cage? If so, then the battery could also be mounted on the cage with a separate attachment for video work. Benefits would be greater protection of the USB-C port from rough handling, as well as having the battery firmly attached to the camera for portable work. Also, a Ninja V or equivalent monitor/recorder could also be attached to the cage.

  • Thanks for your input on this battery charger Matt. This is a great new feature for the Oly. I’m a wild life photographer. I received my OM 1 on the 6th June while I’m in one of South Africa’s 🇿🇦 famous wildlife reserves the Kruger National Park. I use a ROMOS 30+ power bank. It talks about an input and output of 5V whatever that means. While on safari I plugged my camera in and within 2hours 25mins it was fully charged even though I was also shooting wildlife and BIFs. This is magic! I’ve used Olympus for 50 years!! Best thing ever!

  • Speaking about the new batteries. 30% more juice, ~200% price compared to the previous batteries. The only first party charger option from OM Systems comes with an extra battery and is USD219. Yeah, at these prices, I would carry around USB battery banks too to charge my OM1…

  • BEWARE! I just purchased the 20,000 battery listed above and it will not work with my Olympus em-1 Mark iii. Very sad-needed it for vacation. Looks like it will charge the battery if the camera is off. But it will never go into the usb power mode (so I can run my camera all night long). I've used the Olympus cable and tried other– none allow the usb power mode. I guess I'll have to use it on my sony. 🙁

  • Thanks so much for the tip, really appreciate it! I bought the 10500 and it works perfectly! I also bought a 20000 for when I travel. Thanks for your videos, keep up the great work!

  • Great video . Can I use a Cygnett Charge Pro 20000 Mah USB-C Portable power bank. It has 1 45W USB -C Power Delivery & 1 18W USB-A Fast charge. Sold by Costco for a great price. I would have to buy a separate USB-C to USB-C cable separate. Thanks.

  • Hi Matt and thanks for the video. I wondered if you tried using the power bank to charge the battery using the OM-1 charger? I just plugged it in now and the light is blinking so I assume it'll work? I am using the Iniu cable.

  • Just ordered two of the power banks for my OM1 and M1x cameras.

  • Thanks for the insight. Just a question: when pluggiung the Power Bank, the camera has to be switched off or you may plug it while shotting?

  • how many full camera battery charges would you guess your PD unit is capable? also the manual states a min of 27W but the PD in/out is only stated as 20W. is that a concern?

  • Nice video Matt,
can we use the charger USB-C connector to charge spare/emptied batteries in the field (in one's bag) with the PD power bank ?

Can't wait to receiving my OM-1, grip, spare batteries and charger.

  • 0:14 it’s a fabulous battery and I enjoy using it… what are you doing? Kissing and licking it? A note- I am a annoyed oly user who doesn’t like when companies cheap out and stop including chargers. Especially for a 2k camera.

  • Great and very useful video. I got my OM-1 last Thursday and have used the Goal Zero Sherpa 100 PD battery. It is kind of large battery but works really well.

  • Great video ! Funny to see how cameras are five years behind phones when it comes to charging and batteries.

  • Nice video Matt, I take it you can run the camera off a wall usb charger like in a studio and don't worry about a battery power. my EM1 I use a AC power supply thru the battery grip and no batteries in the body and grip.

  • Can you please check the links? For me, the first returns "No results for INIU 763-jfiod-w177. Try checking your spelling or use more general terms" and the next two display pages of cables!

  • Good video! You answered some of my questions re the power bank. But I'm a little confused about the cable that comes with the OM-1. It has 2 cylinders on it and I want to at times use my own cables which are longer but don't have the 2 cylinders. Is it really ok to charge and shoot with just plain generic cables? Also the plastic cord holder that came with the camera: if we use that every time we charge, I think the rubber cover (that makes the inputs weatherproof) on the camera will eventually break off. What do you think?

  • So this power bank worked great for charging, but did you try it for powering the camera? Or that may require the full 27W or higher models? Also, with that L bracket, does the screen fully articulate?

  • I have an Anker 737 25600 mAh power bank that says it will put out 60W via the USB-C port, but I have not charged the camera yet as I just got it. USB-A claims 18W from the website. This power bank did not come with a bag like yours, so I cheat and use an old crown royal bag, which was formerly a lens bag. Lol, I like the idea of hanging it from the tripod while charging. Do you know if you can run 2 batteries? 1 in the body & 1 in the battery grip and still charge both from a bank? Overkill I know just wondering. Thanks great video.

  • Seems the OM-1 is a bit more flexible with the power inputs. With the E-M1X you would really need the 3A at 9V to power the camera. One should watch out for that power rating, if you want to be able to power the E-M1X too.

  • Thanks for the tip. Ordering one today. I’d been trying to figure out which one had the right specs as they don’t always list them all.

  • One word of caution. Do not remove the card from the camera while it is connected to an external source. I just did that on my E-M1 iii and lost a bunch of pictures. Matt, you may want o test that for us on the OM-1. I was trying to multi-task – you know getting back from a shoot and wanting to re-charge the camera and download the files. I had the camera powered off, but charging through the USB c port and then I removed the card to download the files – many files were corrupted and the card showed “no files” when re-inserted. I’ll test this further when I get back from the photo trip, but this has happened twice during this trip.

  • Will this also work to power (not just charge) the E-M1 mkIII?

  • Matt – you mentioned you have to use the Oly cable for firmware updates, but my PC has only a standard USB port. Can I use a cable such as tether tool that is USB 3.0 to USB C for firmware updates?
