As it stands today we have a wide range of desktops and window managers on X11 but as we move into a Wayland world many are finding the transition very difficult and whilst it may get a bit easier some desktops will simply be left behind

Spectrwm has no roadmap… Guess i stuck on xorg until xorg gets nuked in 10yrs
all these small de should work together to make a shared wayland comositor. Dont know if its possible but makes sense.
I hope xfce makes the transition. The choices of wayland compositors are pretty lackluster. KDE is almost there but the font issue kinda makes it a nonstarter. It might just be down to Gnome when it comes the time that things stop working well on Xorg.
As a person who daily uses x forwarding from the company laptop (AD locked down) I dread the wayland future.
Sad that we're not probably gonna see a Wayland version of Openbox or IceWM.
I want to write my own wlroots compositor eventually, it would be funny to have my DE my own.
People need to accept that some environments will die, and new ones will rise. Like Hyprland
People are entitled to have their software working? No. People don't use software that doesn't do what they need done. If you want your project to have users, you can't break userspace and usecases, Linus understands that very well.
Most projects that are still maintained will get there eventually. I don't see the urgency, not like things will suddenly stop working.
I guess Linux is going the way of Windows. You will have your systemd and your few bloated DE´s and be happy or go somewhere else. It´s a pity. I already prefer the BSD´s but for bad stuff like DRM etc I´m forced to use a Linux based OS. Now, what´s REALLY important for me; is there any chance at all that FVWM can survive this dystopia of a world post-X11? I mean if not, old guys like me with our 30yo WM´s must gather with the kids of the tiling WM world. Because then, what we need is a f***ing revolution! This is the FOSS world for crying out loud. What is Linux becoming? How isn´t it already a war going on? I´m usually rather calm. But when i see a threat of not being able to run my beloved FVWM, I had enough. So lets hope it´s not going to get that bad, regardless of your WM of choice. Don´t get me wrong. My work laptop runs KDE. It´s a fine DE and all. Gnome I can´t stand. But what will we be left with if Wayland becomes the only option?
Will things get better with donations? Can donations for the development of wayland effect issues in xorg? Would bounties for xorg go anywhere? Wayland could be 10 years out and the devs have chosen to force migrate everyone onto something that seems incomplete. I do not see how a salary would change hearts, minds, or attitudes.

I have more than one friend who knocked me and laughed at me for being such a Gnome lover.. but, they are using some of the projects you guys are talking about.. with no road map for wayland.. and im over here on gnome with wayland in EndeavourOS… with not a lot of issues for what i do.. they arent laughing anymore lol

Absolutely. It is up to them to keep up. Some will not be able to do so. For many, it may just take a while.
