What is server virtualisation

Virtualization is essentially creating a “pretend” computer within a physical computer. Imagine a hardware box with an operating system. Inside this box, you install software called a hypervisor, which allows you to create virtual hardware boxes known as virtual machines (VMs).

These VMs appear as normal computers to the operating system and software running within them. The beauty of virtualization is that you can have multiple VMs running on a single physical computer, each with its own operating system and applications. This is a common practice in modern server environments, allowing for efficient resource utilization and cost savings.
