What's wrong with B61-12 nuclear bomb and F-35 ?
Stealth fighter jet F-35A Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter United States (US) has been tested for its ability to drop a nuclear gravity bomb B61-12
which is not activated or an inert version . The Pentagon or Department of Defense has released nearly a dozen photos of the test.
An active B61-12 nuclear bomb will produce a maximum explosion of 50 kilotons, and its size is small enough that it can be loaded inside the F-35 internal bomb chamber.
The trial of dual capable aircraft (DCA) or dual-capable aircraft from the F-35A took place several times in the airspace around Air Force Base (AFB) Edwards, California, one of them on June 27, 2019. The
F-35A will be the only one of three types of Lockheed Martin F-35 aircraft that are certified as DCA, which allows it to carry nuclear bombs and conventional bombs.
However, the ability of Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) to use B61-12 depends on a comprehensive upgrade in Block 4 software as revealed by the Government Accountability Office (GAO) recently. The total upgrade takes at least nine months. However, the F-35A DCA certification, according to the Office of the Secretary of Defense, is not expected to be completed until January 2023.
Block 4 will also provide F-35 other weapons options, such as Naval Strike Missile, Meteor and SPEAR missiles and several laser guided bombs.
