  • Dave casually mentions that he created task manager as a side project and blows everyone’s collective mind

  • I had an insane performance increase when swapping from an hdd to an ssd. That said, there are a lot of other features you can turn off that boost performance, such as drop shadows or windows search. I also find that programs open way faster by opening them one by one as needed rather than them all fighting eachother for the same memory and disk read upon boot up.

  • Hard to follow and understand cause he speaks fast and munching up syllables.

  • Omg that Task Manager. Nvidia nv tmru application and AMD Catalyst Control Centre?

  • Computers, meaning the hardware, generally don't get slower with age. The newer the software we run on them, the more demanding of the computer it is. If we only ran software on our computers that they were shipped with or software from that same time period, they'd be just as fast 30 years later as they were when they were new. The problem is we keep trying to run software made for newer, faster computers on our older, slower computers. This is true for any computer whether it's a PC, tablet or smartphone or anything else. Software is designed with the capabilities of the computers of that time in mind and running it on older computers will be slower because those computers were never designed to be fast enough to do it.

  • Hey Dave my old trustful miggy didn't get slower it's just that everything else got faster 🙂
Heck if i run my A500 i wonder how could we have worked with this?
And look at all the content created on this "not even a real computer", new ideas splattered out of brains because it was an affordable machine.
Nah, it never got slower it still runs at the same 4mHz.

Of course you are right, i'm just in a funny mood and love my old machines.

  • How does overclocking cause any sort of “aging”? Would it not be related to thermals and not actually running at higher speeds.

  • I see leftovers from old software still hanging around the registry. I used to use CCleaner but was told that cleaning the registry really doesn't change anything. Is that correct? In any case, what's the safest way to keep the registry clean, if it makes any difference?

  • Just install Linux OS and your old computer will run fast, free and immune of viruses.

  • I've also found that by trimming bloatware and disabling telemetry you can cut your idle cpu usage by around 1-5% and your idle memory usage by about a third to a half

  • The main reason: all that porn you watch has been accumulating maleware for years.

  • You actually need to fix just one thing on older HW to keep it running smoothly: install a proper OS! 😉

  • How do i get microsoft defender? A simple search then download?

  • Reapplying cooling paste between heatsink and CPU / GPU every couple of years is a must on old hardware.

  • Now I understand where everything that slows down the computers comes from.
This guys added alot of non topic related…before getting to the point….

  • Shoot, I was reading an article about you last year – YOU ARE A HERO, SIR, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR TASK MANAGER! I've loved that baby since day one. It was absolutely crucial for me in cleaning up the sort of virus problems people would get back in the mid-00s (along with a few different antiviral programs) – the sort where you'd be lucking to get 30 seconds of OS run time after boot before the whole system crashed.

    God bless you, sir!

  • OMG this chap is so boring!!! Get to the point. Not really interested in your ‘hi-tech’ office/kids classroom set-up! The rest, I fear, is just common sense. Pointless vid👎🏻

  • Because of adds, updating and general interfering with the computer without authorisation from the owner of the computer. I try to rid myself of those and it is okay although some get through. I do not believe in adds and passing my details out. Why a single app cannot be made to take all adds in and when people aske for an article they come as near as possible and items that are difficult further away. Who ever makes one will score well a small fee for every contact hmmm im not smart enough.

  • The best advice though would be not to use Microsoft Windows at all. Slowing down with age used to be a Windows specific thing, and it's mostly due to how Windows stores (and fails to clean) software configurations. No slowing down happens on Macs or Linux systems, no matter how old.
