You could rename that drive to A if you wanted to.
I do inventory control for local government, which means we receive a lot of salvaged materials. Just this week we got a box full of unused CD ROMS and 3.5 inch floppies.
That's why you can C:dos>run!
Backward compatibility seems backward somehow. I haven't used, or needed, a floppy disk in more than twenty years. I use a USB Flash Drive if I need to transfer files from one computer to another computer. I can't even remember when I last saw a floppy disk. Maybe I will try mapping a drive to A: or B: just for fun.
You are allowed to label another drive A or B however!
I didn't know that
that's amazing
Wow, never questioned myself about this. Thanks for explaining it 🙂 so simple, and makes sense 🙂
The first computer I ever used had one 8" floppy for the "Program" and another 8" floppy for the document. You could very easily "crash" one of those floppy disks by writing one too many documents on it.
Those floppies were Drive "A" and Drive "B." (I don't think there was a permanent drive (C) in that computer.)
One other note: We kept a hand written log of what documents and how many documents were on that 2nd floppy.
