Why you NEED to turn off Microsoft Start in Windows 11

Microsoft’s Start in Windows 11 comes with a whole load of crap but could you get malware from it? Days ago I received an email about crapware, RestoreX360, bragging about being on msn.com and therefore the start menu. Block trackers and spying with DNS: https://controld.com/ (sponsor)

  • Sabrents website seems to be hosting malware on their downloads page. I just saw a video from ThioJoe about this and i would love to see your input and a real breakdown and analysis of the situation

  • I’ve been seeing more and more articles that were written (poorly) by AI linked by that menu lately.

  • i would like to know if you have ever tested Viper Antivirus the reason i ask i have had it for a very long time and it never finds and thing in it so wo9uld be willing to lookit over

  • I turned that off when I started using Windows 11. This 11 thing kinda sucks. 🙄

  • So have to skip a 3 min YT ad, just to see your 7 min ad for some software. welcome to my block list

  • Hey Leo, could you do a test on Emsisoft again? it's been years since you last tested it 🙂

  • We invented adblock to stop this now it's trying to come back we must not allow ads to take over the Internet like in the 2000s and people like Google should be held accountable for posting scam ads.

  • How to deactivate Microsoft Start or the Widgets Icon with a Script?

  • If you're computer is slow & not working well…
    It's not the hardware.

  • "If your computer is slow, if it's not working well, that's probably because your hardware is outdated…"
Or… alternatively said you are using Windows… Sometime the PC users are shocked to see their 10+ years computers working just fine with some lightweight Linux distribution. Or, pretty recent PCs, which were marketed as "cheap" and "for home" and you find out that they sell it with 8 or even 4 GB of RAM. Yes, even nowadays you can buy such laptop… and not as bargain! Sometime even above $500!

  • I didn't quite get in the controld website about its price, is it free for personal use? I don't want to create an account to discover it, and it only shows pricings for organizations.

  • I don't think the sponsor link has anything in his link to tell them that someone came from you

  • windows having a popup to show weather and other information before login on boot up is also very worrying. Not only is a live session having adware under guise of boosting productivity but its being brought to other parts of the os very scary to what could happen if there are any vulns chained before even user input could log in with password.

  • at the works computer, every time I clicked on the edge's startpage "ads" it was a scam site lol

  • Yeah I switched it off in mine a week ago along with the widgets (not sure if they are the same thing). I've been using Win11 for around a month now, lol.

Not due to malware but because of the shitty sites it spammed, like "10 ways to do X" with those fecking slideshows with ads every 2 slides or so.

  • "Hardware is outdated, no software will fix that" Linux would like to have a word with you
For real though, Linux has saved so many great PCs that are still working flawlessly dispite windows 10 originally slowing it down to a grinding halt

  • OOSU10++ is an excellent tool to help dial a lot of this intrusive nonsense back, on top of manually turning these settings off as much as possible.

Also just running Linux and stuffing Windows in a VM is a great solution. 🤣
