  • Please pay more attention to GB and GiB, plus I like to see the real number, assuming your storage is 512GB I made the true calculation in GB:
    Fedora – 7.7 GB
    Arch – 45 GB
    Ubuntu – 49.2 GB
    Windows – 72 GB

  • Foul. So you didn't use Arch linux. You used endeavor, which is a fork of arch linux. The latter of which is a diy OS, so the performance on arch can very widely depending on the end user choices and knowledge, where endeavor comes packaged the way the devs think it should be. Then using benchmarks which benefit from opengl and dx11 on windows? And which rendering engine and driver was used on each linux system? Which kernels were used? I was hope that the zen or lts kernels were used across the board. Phpbench? Awful test due to varying libraries. Python? Endeavor wins because it will have the latest version of python. So maybe go back and do this one again when you've fixed your testing methodology

  • You should also compare with a revisioned windows os like ReviOS .

  • lets face it. the only reason for windows is native support for (some) games and special software.

the moment linux (or windows) achieves windows programms running on linux in 2 clicks, windows is dead. no, wine/bottles do not count right now

  • lol 34 second boot times. i can do a full restart in that time on W11.
It's free and no one wants Linux. Give it a rest.

  • Hey Techhut, it's good to know you are still making videos. 👍Hope everything is going well

  • Windows isn't that far behind Linux. I imagine, if Microsoft removed all the telemetry and bloatware, that performance would be almost identical. And wouldn't be entirely surprising. After all, there's a limit on how much a programming language can do, while the NT and Linux kernels likely use similar algorithms.

  • The Python results are not surprising, because on Windows, Python can't use the fork() system call so they have to make an entirely new process for parallel computing.

  • Windows uses GiB instead of GB and assuming Arch was also showing GiB and not GB , The actual storage used by all OS from 512GB storage would be :
    Fedora – 7.7 GB
    Windows 11 – 39.55 GB
    Arch – 44.92 GB
Ubuntu – 49.2 GB (is ubuntu also using GiB? cause damn 💀)

  • Copy a file over the network from a Linux Server (any Linux desktop distro will do) over SMB and Windows will beat them ALL hands down. Only way you can get Linux to come close is to pre-add the network drive during boot-up basically outside of the GUI. For whatever reason, Windows beats it hands down when copying over the network.

  • Well done. All this extensive testing would have taken you ages.

  • use application people actaully use on windows to test windows' speed, no one uses kdenlive or other crap

  • Sadly heaven benchmark isnt a benchmark of real world games and sadly kdenlive cant compare to proper software on professional usage/when u care performance. Anyways, nice tests good editing loved that❤

  • So I accept a little performance impact using Windows instead of wasting hours on researching every little Linux glitch 🙂

  • Windows has always felt slower, especially with file transfers and compression/decompression and this type of tests prove that feeling was correct.

Isn't it ironic that the OEM's typically make the hardware drivers for Windows first and yet it's Linux which is way faster at transfer speeds meaning it's making better use of that hardware in part. Part of it also may have to do with the OS itself.

I'm so glad I run Linux for so many reasons. Sadly I do have to keep Win10 running in a VM for printing because Canon doesn't make Linux drivers. But that vm is not connected to the network and is a basic install so that's ok I suppose.

Next time I'm getting a Brother printer i think

  • Several tests showed that gaming on Linux is about 10-30% faster than Windows 11. Proton does a great job.

  • All of this is great but Linux needs more drivers and support before I make the switch.

  • Linux isn't the largest market share of servers in the world but it is the largest share of web servers, not exactly the same thing.

  • This is a nice comparison, but there are many variables when running Linux and results may vary. For example, using Arch with XFCE and powertop, I get faster boot and better battery with Arch than with Ubuntu.
