Windows Server 2016 | IPv4 and IPv6 | Introduction
This lesson covers ipv4 and ipv6. The goal of this course is to provide an overview of the Internet Protocol. Look into details about ipv4 and ipv6 including the addressing the traffic routing including subnets and gateways stateless addressing with ipv6. Interoperability between ipv4 to ipv6 and then the overall routing and borderless gateway protocol. Now when I talk about up the internet protocol, you might hear me say things like this is layer 3 this is layer 7, and these relate the open systems interconnect or OSI model. The OSI model defines seven layers you can see from the bottom up it starts with physical and data link. This could be Ethernet it could be a token ring and in TCP/IP terms we think of that as the network interface then we have the network layer. This would be ipv4 or ipv6 then we have the transport layer TCP or UDP then there are three layers. This session the presentation and the application and again in TCP/IP terms we kind of bundle those together and that becomes the application layer. But if I say this low balancing solution is a layer 3 solution it means he understands up to that Internet that network layer IE IP but it does not understand things like TCP or UDP doesn’t understand the application. If I say something is a layer 7 device means the operator, the application layer it understands HTTP, it maybe does SSL termination. It provides additional functionality, so this is just to provide that basis when you hear anything about layers when you think about TCP/IP. It really breaks down into these layers of the OSI model and IP is used for everything today when you browse the web. When you have devices in your home network they are all communicating using IP, you won’t see it you’re used to using a friendly name like WWE will check Name but behind the scenes, IP is enabling all of the communication between the devices. The data is sent as packets between the source and the target you’re actually communicating with.
