Windows Server 2022 – Joining A Windows 11 Computer To A Domain | Session 3

In this ittaster session you’ll learn how to join a Windows 11 client computer to a Microsoft Windows Server 2022 domain in your test lab. We’ll also carry out pre-requisite checks before joining the domain to avoid potential issues.

Joining a Windows 11 computer to a Microsoft Windows Server 2022 Active Directory Domain, provides centralized management of users, computers and resources, and supports a client/server network model.

Microsoft Active Directory Domain Services is the corner stone that provides Access and Identity Management (IAM), in an on premises Microsoft Windows Server network.

  • In case you're running your workstation directly on your computer and your Server on a VM on another computer, Ensure that in your VM network settings, you use a Bridged Adapter instead of NAT and select the exact WiFi card of your host computer for the pinging to work. And also enable promiscuous mode too in advance.

  • Nice content, refreshed my rusty skills greatly, Thank you

  • This has helped massively every time I tried befit I entered the admin username and password and it kept failing but forgot to do the servernameaccount

  • if you only knew how easy you make this. I started knowing literally NOTHING. Did it in thirty minutes. The VM made it difficult. I'm trying to keep up with my father. He has 103 IT certs. I have none. So you can imagine.

  • I followed everything you did and when I use CMD to ping ip for domain it works but when I try to ping the domain itself I get nothing. None of my computers can log into the domain either. Keep getting a message that the domain does not exist. Please help

  • Hi, can you please make a video on what is GMSA (Group Managed Service Accounts) & explain how to set it up & how to add systems to it? Please its a request do reply

  • Does anyone know how to set server 2022 to auto log off user? I access the server via teamviewer and it logs me straight to the desktop bypassing the login screen, How do I make the login screen compulsory

  • I appreciate your work, really, if it weren't for you I would be completely lost, however I just wanted to throw a little fun fact I found, in this 3 video tutorial series, at first I couldn't use the default network from Oracle VM VirtualBox (NAT) so I followed some other youtuber advice and went ahead by setting up a custom NAT Network so both my Windows Server 2019 machine could communicate with the Windows 10 Enterprise machine (Both Virtual Machines), and adapted your work by setting the IP Address (IPv4), Subnet, Gateway and DNS accordingly to my new virtual network, after that I was able to sync both machines and was able to set up a domain, a working server, and the corresponding machine and credentials already registered.
(All of this part of an assignment I have for college, which for sure I will pass thanks to your excellent guide <3)

I do wonder how you managed to connect both machines to the same network on your end 😉

  • Do i need to install windows 11 on my oracle VM to able to join them?

  • Can you explain or do a video on an example for a new user in another city/remote user gets a new computer out of box and we need them to help them join the domain. Let them create default user/admin log on to remote software , we set up another admin user , log in and set up VPN software and join domain. Seem to be seeing this after Covid a lot

  • Hi Jon, thanks for the great video. I'm stuck at 4:50, when you do nslookup of the server by name. It only works for me if I disable IPv6 on my client. Apparently, my client is prioritising IPv6 over IPv4, which I understand is normal behaviour. Microsoft recomments to leave IPv6 on, as it is an essential part of Windows. I understand IPv4 can be prioritised over IPv6 on clients by editing the registry, but I was wondering whether there is a more elegant solution to my problem. Thank you for your attention!

  • Are you planning on adding to this series?

  • I am trying to nslookup the DNS server and I am getting a non-existing domain. The address above this message is giving me an IPv6 address. I pretty much followed everything that you have done in the past 3 episodes. How can I go forward in trouble shooting this issue.

Am I having this issue because I have a bridged connection to get my vms connect to the internet this way?

  • great work!
it would be better if video is in 1080p.
    thank you!

  • tell me please
how Revert back to windows 10 from windows server standard 2022?????

  • Jon, I am installing a new Netgate PF Sense firewall as my primary interface to my WAN. My question is , "Should I assign a VLAN to my Windows Server 2022 box and then set that box as my AD DC"?
