Server 2022 has the HPET timer fix that is present in Win11 also. LTSC 2021 does not have this fix.
anyway you did you best love you chris titus
In Conclusion the more Beblotted windows the more problems for programs and gaming dependency so in result windows sever is not a good os for gaming not not even LTSC is a good version of windows in my opinion because i had problems with LTSC as well when installing games so i personally run your debloat on windows 11 pro and do some gaming optimizations and thats all i do for my pc because again if you go to far in the weeds then you will break some games dependency if you have a modern pc/laptop that can run windows 11 it does not need that much blot remover because your pc/laptop is modern but if i had a very old laptop from 2009 running windows 7 with 4gb ram then i would had used windows 10 ltsc or sever edition because i wont be gaming in that laptop so tehn its a good version of windows
What I did for AMD drivers on Windows server is use SDI like you did here but instead of lettting the program do the installing, I first let it download the AMD files, then I extracted the zip it downloaded with 7zip, then I went to Device Manager and pointed the "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter" to where I extracted the AMD drivers and told it to look in there… and then the driver installed and works perfect for me.
Thanks for an entertaining video Chris. But you got me curious how do you install VenToy on a hard drive and make it accessible over network? Could you maybe make a video about that someday?
did you do it? is it perfect? im tempted
fun to watch
Last time I checked Windows Server I installed it on my laptop no issues. but when I got my gaming PC I tried to install windows server on this and Windows Server and AMD Drivers don't cooperate well…
like ltsc untill i couldn't play spiderman due to a driver only working on newer windows versions
I use MBR on all my machines because UEFI boot is a pain to get working, especially if you dual boot with Linux or anything non Windows, or have a UEFI Class 3 system. For example, I was doing a dual boot setup for a friend on their HP laptop, and it kept forcing Windows as the default and I had to do some hacky method to get it to temporarily show. I don't even remember what it was. On more normal computers you're forced to use GRUB over Windows Boot Manager, Linux can't be added to UEFI boot Windows Boot Manager. GRUB has tiny text while you can actually read Windows Boot Manager especially if you have a high DPI display.
Also if I remember correctly Cyberpunk 2077, Horizion Zero Dawn, and Death Stranding require 1809. HZD used to run on 1803, but an artificial block was introduced at some point iirc.
on my Sever i had to install the Pro AMD Drivers for my HD 7750 ish card
That's not what nano was. Nano and Core are 2 different things. Core still has win32 bindings and things of that nature. Nana was stripped of much of that. It was much closer to the idea of a kernel with a thin layer on top.
Windows Server also has a hidden wrench that can really fuck you over.
Some games and some software will flat out refuse to start if they detect you are on a Windows Server as they do not want to allow it in enterprise settings.
I have been running Windows Server 2022 Datacenter Edition as my main OS since May 2022. I have no regrets, and I've gotten it to run pretty much everything I want. The only thing I don't have is the Game Bar/DVR thing and Cortana, which are things I really don't care or need. Windows Store isn't there either, but you can manually install msix packages to get around that, and most work, including HEVC/HEIF formats as I've come to discover. Haven't really had any other major issues, the server features are useful to have around even if you don't use them that often.
P.S. If you aren't using a true workstation or server grade motherboard, with dual LAN ethernet ports, only one will work properly due to Intel market segmentation between consumer/business LAN drivers/chipsets, so you will have to driver .INF mod to get both ports to work. You will have to change some settings in Group Policy Editor to get NVIDIA drivers to work properly also.
I felt that when you swore at bing chat. I know it's just an ai, but be nice 🙁
Windows Server 2019 is based on v1809 lol
Ordinary users don't want to use cmdline or to deal with unstable jank; They want things simple, working and with a GUI Apple understand this, but sadly the Linux community did not. If the Linux community got some UI designers, focused on the graphical user experience and stopped fragmenting they could be the next big OS, but they're too busy self sabotaging themselves to listen to what users want.
All the fragmenting means the Linux community has nothing on the market, no software on shelves, no products working out of the box on a retail shelf for users to purchase and no TV or digital marketing.
How does nobody know about this?
"Limited to 2 cores" Can you even buy processors with only 2 cores anymore? Do you mean 2 sockets? 2016 was a long time ago, but I feel like we were past 2 cores even then.
Has the Windows 11 thread manager, that allows modern Intel processors to work correct, been backported to the older Windows versions?
The correct site to get Windows ISOs is rg-adguard (google will take you to the old site, but it has a banner with the updated site).
It has ISOs for all the versions of all the OSes MS has published as far as I can tell.
Man, it's pretty nice, I followed you along and installed it in a VM. Nice to see Windows without bloat. Maybe nice for a dev machine but if it doesn't support AMD GPUs then I don't know…
The problem is that a lot of software won't install and want the pricier version as soon as it detects windows server..
I’ve running Server 2022 on a 6th gen intel i7 and it is super fast.
Windows and perfect in the same sentence. Chris are you trying to give me chronic heart failure ? WTH !! LOL…
Ever since I switched from Windows to Linux for my daily driver operating system, I've never gone back and frankly I find that RHEL is a great deal more stable than Fedora, Debian or Rocky or even Alma. This is because I like having access to redhats knowledge base,
Great IDEA…
2:27:01 – Chris saying "come in" reminded me of Star Trek when the characters go to their crewmates' quarters. hahahaha (Yeah, I'm a dork)
If someone does make a good Windows Server to workstation converter app, I think it could be great for the power users out there. My biggest argument against Windows Server for personal use is that some software refuses to run without more expensive licenses or just flat out refuses to run at all. If this could be fixed on a per software basis, I think Windows Server could be the perfect version of Windows for all the reasons you mentioned.
Basically last time I checked, Wi-Fi/audio support needs to be manually enabled, adjust priority for background processes vs logged-in user running apps, password strictness requirements, shutdown/restart/standby/hibernation fix since Windows Server is designed for maximum uptime, and find a way to trick user installed programs that expect a consumer version of Windows that they are running on a more normal Windows equivalent version
Probably using Amernime modded drivers on Server would work. Just a guess.
LTT: Ordinary users are unlikely to install Linux on a computer because it's to complicated.
CTT: Let's install Windows Server 20xx umm now which version, which edition, which feature update…
The Windows installer GUI sometimes cannot figure out how to partition the drives
Let's use a CLI method instead …
Seems there's a huge difference in user experience between either updating Windows in-place or installing Windows on a single empty drive with the computer already in UEFI mode and drive already using GPT partitioning vs anything more complicated.
To be fair Windows Server 2016 is quite old for installing now in 2023, even if security updates are available until 2027, unless you are willing to forgo compatibility with newer capabilities.
I admit I had also forgotten how recent WinGet was.
Ventoy – I am not surprised because I while it is supposed to have a Secure Boot mode, Windows might still not be quite expecting the environment presented to it compared with when it's just booting the regular USB made by the media creator tool from the single ISO.
I either use Windows Server or Windows Pro for Workstations if I want it up to date. Both equally good choices, I consider server to be something like LTS Linux distro. It doesn't get updated as much, but it's insanely stable (considering it's windows).
what's the point of buying some random keys if you are going to use them against eula anyway? they work, sure, as well as high seas activation. and as legit.
Doesn’t update my amd graphics card driver in server 2022. Actually just tried this a couple days ago on a desktop. Does it work with Intel Arc or Nvidia? I actually really wanna try Arc if it’ll work. Anyone know?
Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021 is still the best. It will get its extended support (security updates) till 2032, and Windows 10 is not going to get any more of those "feature upgrades" anyway.
Edit: Not to mention that it has the traditional activation system that the main Windows 10 Home/Pro uses of digital licensing, unlike the chore that is setting up the core LTSC versions (the non-IoT ones), and has better/longer support cycle.
I have windows server 2019 license, maybe good idea to use it on Windows Tablet?
