Title: Zen and The Art of Organizational Open Source
Abstract: The open source landscape is evolving rapidly, with the availability of fully functional and rich solutions for eCommerce, payment gateways, CRM, enterprise search, marketing automation, and more. ‘Build vs. buy’ is no longer relevant; in today’s digital landscape the question becomes ‘license and customize’ vs. ‘compose from open source packages’. But, changes in the open source landscape have also brought new challenges and threats. For organizations that are just now beginning to explore their open source dependencies, it can be a sobering realization to find the hundreds or thousands of packages that your business critical applications already rely on. What can we do? Like any practice, harnessing the power of open source starts in small steps, including: – Awareness – Safe Consumption – Strategic Contribution This talk will share approaches for increasing open source awareness and tooling to evaluate dependencies on open source. It will then share best practices for supply chain security and automating the safe consumption of open source packages, with a call to action for strategic contribution to the open source projects that are key to the success of your organization.
