Zephyr’s Path to Safety Certification – Kate Stewart, The Linux Foundation

As we transition to renewable energy sources playing a larger role in our energy infrastructure, there are more IoT devices being connected to the networks to provide information. Sensors and actuators are going to need to communicate reliably with the edge devices and up to the cloud, so more effective decisions can be made. Some of these devices are also going to have dependability and safety requirements associated with them. This session will provide a short overview of the Zephyr RTOS which was started 5 years ago, with the goal of being a safe and secure RTOS for resource constrained devices that could be used where Linux is not an option. There will be a focus on some of the capabilities that the project has nurtured in order to have security with these constrained devices, as well as steps being taken to enable it to be used in applications that have safety requirements and may be required conformance to safety standards.
