To install Debian 12 on Proxmox Virtual Environment (Proxmox VE), follow these steps:

Download Debian 12 ISO: First, download the Debian 12 ISO image from the official Debian website or a trusted mirror.

Access Proxmox Web Interface: Open a web browser and navigate to the Proxmox VE web interface. It’s typically accessible through a URL like https://your_proxmox_ip_address:8006.

Log in: Enter your Proxmox VE username and password to log in.

Create a New Virtual Machine (VM): In the left-hand panel, click on “Create VM” to start the VM creation wizard.

General Settings: In the “General” tab of the wizard, enter a name for the VM (e.g., “Debian 12”) and select the node where you want to run the VM.

OS Settings: In the “OS” tab, choose “Linux” as the operating system and select “Debian 12.x (Buster)” as the version.

System Settings: In the “System” tab, specify the number of cores, amount of RAM, and optionally, enable/disable the “Use Virtio” option.

Hard Disk Settings: In the “Hard Disk” tab, choose the storage where you want to store the VM’s hard disk image. You can either use an existing storage or create a new one.

CD/DVD Settings: In the “CD/DVD” tab, select “ISO image” and browse to the location where you downloaded the Debian 12 ISO file.

Network Settings: In the “Network” tab, select the appropriate network interface for the VM.

Confirm and Create: Review your settings in the “Summary” tab, then click “Finish” to create the VM.

Start the VM: After creating the VM, right-click on it in the Proxmox web interface and select “Start” to power on the VM.

Debian 12 Installation: Access the VM’s console by clicking on the “Console” button in the Proxmox web interface. Follow the on-screen instructions to install Debian 12 as you would on a physical machine.

Complete the Installation: Once Debian 12 is installed inside the VM, follow the setup and configuration steps, such as creating user accounts and setting up networking.

Install Proxmox Guest Additions (Optional): After Debian 12 is installed, you may choose to install Proxmox Guest Additions to enhance the VM’s performance and integration with Proxmox VE.

That’s it! You have now successfully installed Debian 12 on Proxmox VE. You can manage the VM through the Proxmox web interface and perform various administrative tasks as needed.

  • why you cant just give link to debian 12 download in description?

  • When you skip selecting deb mirror on the installation, etc/apt/sources.list seems to be having only CD-ROM as sources. I'v had this issue and fixed it by replacing the content of /etc/apt/sources.list with "default debian 12 sources list" (which I found by a google search ) .

Btw I was just wondering why were you following a centOS guide on a debian .
