  • I AM AWARE that I held up a CFL light bulb and not an LED lol. I had it in the script and then realized that was the only bulb I had on hand and went with it thinking I one would care. I was clearly wrong haha. That being said, I appreciate when people correct me on things. Just figured I would clarify since I’ve gotten so many comments on it. 😂

  • PROFOUNDLY DISAPPOINTING

I bought a ZimaBoard based upon this video to run Jellyfin and it has been a profound disappointment.

    1. CasaOS provides no mechanism to set the static IP addresses of the LAN ports from the GUI. It relies upon DHCP fro IP addresses from a router on the LAN. This means that the IP address is not fixed. That DHCP servers tend to persist the IP addresses doesn't mean they're guaranteed between reboods.

    2. The JellyFin DLNA server does not work. There's no DLNA device showing on the LAN. It has something to do with the service running inside of something called "Docker" – whatever that is.

I've tried tweeting to both JellyFin and to CasaOS, but get no replies. I've spent a number of hours on Google searching for answers, but it's nothing but techies telling folks to drop to the command line and to reinstall/recompile things from source code. Not end-user friendly.

  • @HardwareHaven — blur isn't destructive, if you have anything confidential, make sure to redact with black boxes

  • 20:10 Hi, new to this – does the upload to casaOS take up network bandwidth? worried because my ISP limits speed after reaching a few thousand GB threshold.

  • When I try to access the terminal, it says something about installing SSH so I installed ssh from the app store on my system and it's still not working any suggestions

  • Is it avialiable for Smart TVs or how do you stream to your Tv or Tablet or Phone without using a Browser

  • Have you tried mdadm to create the array in the os. I would think once you do that it would become available to casaos like any other drive

  • I had tried CasaOS installed on my QNAP NAS, but when I tried to connect a path from Jellyfin to a shared folder on the NAS I had so much difficulty. In your video, you showed how to set up the path in Jellyfin settings before opening Jellyfin, and that worked. Thank you. I had already wasted a lot of time trying to find the answer on internet searches but no one mentioned your solution.

  • Would you recomend Debian or ubuntu desktop for CASAOS

  • Is the minecraft server local or can my friends join it too from there home?
And can I have more as 1 server? How?

  • what is the minimum workable hardware requirement if run on intel machine?

  • Good presentation, but can't imagine someone who has installed openmediavault would be switching CasaOS.

  • It's not all that simple and "easy". I think the docker everywhere thing adds another layer of complexity. For instance, Jellyfin server doesn't see USB drives that show up under /media/ so thats kind of annoying. I don't think this is for the casual user.

  • You are amazing and you teach so well, you actually give detailed information and want to help! THANK YOU !

  • New subscriber here. Really great video, thank you for that.
I have one question about HomeAssistant. Can we somehow point to the external storage drives to be used by default by HomeAssistant even though the installation is in the internal storage? I'm having my solar production and electric consumption running 24/7 in HA and it's a lot of data for just 32Gb. Thanks

  • Just discovered your channel today and I'm super impressed. You are well versed in so many different tools.

  • lol, if you need to blur everything, then don't show at all. You are even hiding the Nord VPN IP man.

  • Thanks for this. I have a Truenas server running but I've been thinking about a small footprint / low power 2nd server for additional backups and docker.

  • This fool is fighting consumerism with more consumerism. Clown world.

  • I went with mini-itx AM4 motherboard and 5700g that is downclocked, install it in the drawer of TV shelf together with one M2 SSD for OS and 4 HDDs for actual storage.
Quiet and very capable. ideally you need to prepare raid volume before installing Casaos by using mdadm, so it is already there mounted as a volume.

  • Can you access this server from an iPhone in an easy way?

  • I have been wanting to do this for a long time but i never had confidence in my ability to keep my data "secure" and intact. My friend told me to set up a NAS RAID5 but now I think he had said he is changing over to …sonething else….IDR

  • [Chuckle] You said standard LED light bulb" but held up a compact fluorescent.

  • As someone who just uses ubuntu most of the time, I highly recommend this. So much simpler. Im using it on my pi for jellyfin 10/10

  • if i wanted to add vpn functionality to containers within casa os like transmission or qbittorrent would tailscale allow me to do this. Is it the same install you have shown here or would there be other configurations needed in tailscale?

  • Thanks alot for this great guide! Quick question: Will I be able to mount a NTFS formatted USB drive/DAS (with content already on it) to share and acess the content locally?

I have all my content on a DAS (RAID5) that I’d like to keep using as a portable drive (so I’m not locked to any single platform). So far I’ve been avoiding setting up a NAS at home as I’d like a media server that keeps the flexibility of just connecting a USB drive with all my content – and not having to format drives and start from scratch.

  • finds those movies, buy a parrot, and eye patch and a wooden leg lol

  • hmmm, nice box – HOWEVER – a silly wyse 5070 with J4105 has twice the horse power, 2 sodim slots so can be geared up to 32GB ram and sata m.2 port … twice the horse power at 4w idlle and fraction of the price.
ONLY and I mean ONLY use case I can find for this is super simple and dumb spinning rust CEPH nodes (because 2x ssd would saturate 1gb link waaaaay to easily)
