Installing pfSense Community Edition 2.5.2 firewall on ESXi VM

In preparation for a demo environment, I needed to provision a firewall to provide internet access to the network. I decided to use the (free) pfSense Community Edition FreeBSD firewall inside of a VMware Virtual Machine.

In this video guide, I show how to install, configure, and deploy a simple pfSense firewall appliance in the virtual environment.

In this video:

-Installing pfSense CE 2.5.2 on ESXi VM
–Installer
–Network Configuration
–NIC Assignment

-Configuration
–pfSense Web Interface
–Default admin account
–Port Forwarding (and 1:1 NAT)

  • why i dont have VMware Virtual Ethernet Adapter on the network connections settings? i only have Intel(R) gigabit network connection how should i fix that ?

  • If he chose PFSense, listen up guys. You found a live one. It's tough to beat PFSense with the PF Firewall, integrations with CARP for load balancing, etc. In fact I would encourage him to do one with CARP and demonstrate load balancing and another with 2FA.
