Pre-Configuring A Clients Unifi Network

***NOTE***

In my RFC1918 address group I made a typo I put 192.16.0.0/24 it should be 192.168.0.0/16

In this video I walk you through my process of pre-configuring a Unifi network for my client. Once all the gear is on site I will make additional changes as well as firewall rules

Going to have to watch the firewall rules segment over and over to wrap my head around it. Do you have any videos that you focus on it and sort of explain it slower?

Hey @mactelecom, good video. Your fw rules could do with some pruning. Especially LAN LOCAL (FW) – you could do an 2000 accept from man (src) –> * (dst) (all GW ips) and 2001 reject from everything else (src * –> dst http, https, ssh) – and voila' you went from 10+ rules to two 😉 Keep up the good work you do 🙂 ps. good practice on LAN is to reject, and DROP on WAN. This way you know when you hit a rule, and your clients aren't waiting for timeouts.

Hey Cody, Great Video as always! I have a question, Off the stream, do you have a process to build such setup with minimal human interaction? For example, if you want to repeat the same setup for another client, do you do it manually from scratch or you use something like Backup/Restore (let's say of a golden settings) that you can tweak to match the new customer setup? IMO, using the Backup/Restore settings method is a good options that might help to save you some valuable time. Thanks

So how much time did you spend on doing this setup from start to finish?

Cody- check you RFC1918 group. I think you have a typo on one of the address group. (On video it appeared incorrect) like all of your YouTube videos. Thanks for very informative content.

Hi Cody, which DAC did you use? I have the UDC-1 to link my UDM pro and USE-24-POE and it doesn’t work no matter how I set the sfp on UDMP to 1GFDX manually. I have FW 1.9.0 on UDMP… it’s a 1G connection anyway due to USW24POE so I have been using RJ45 but really like to get the copper link up working.

Thanks for the video. Perhaps do a video on how to set up a client's network using Unifi when your home/shop network is also Unifi (alleviate double NAT?). Also, I hate the fact that in order to use Unifi Access, you have to have the more expensive PRO switches as Access requires POE++. Ubiquiti in a way is forcing us to buy more expensive gear on top of the $500 for the starter Access system.
