Hi, do you think NVMe vROC RAID is a stable solution?
Nice video! look like a awesome server. The outtakes at the end were funny, you should include them more.
What's everyone's preferred reseller for SM stuff? Trying to find these as configured is always a pain
nice very nice
Do you know of any open source IT/pc-parts inventory web interface application ????
noobquestion: @ 2:53 who would benefit from only using IPMI? or how would it be used in a network setup?
Good info, thanks!!
Is this a response from SM because of LTT's video about that gigabyte server? prob not but the timing is still funny.
Cool look on the new ipmi.
We have a 1028u-tr4t+ at home and it works great, but for sure makes a lot of noise 😉
2.5 inch hdd's are crazy hard to find tho
I hope we NEVER see HDMI on a server. What a terrible interface for basic management. Good old fashioned analog VGA is BEST. No wait times. Nearly no memory required, completely universal support. Literally ANYONE can find a very inexpensive monitor with a VGA on it. It's just the best.
ultra and super in the same name lol. Must be hardcore :p
The 1u super micro server are great for labs. That is what I was use.
Most of the time I don't like the bloopers, but yours were great – especially as they were after a black screen and unexpected. Nice deviation! 👍
VGA pretty much just works. HDMI is licensed. Admittedly, the lower res stuff up to Full HD, would probably work with pretty much any cables you can get for cheap. Once you go beyond that, it is a cluster of failing cables..
First
What a time to be alive, where 1.6 gigaBYTES/second is just considered "reasonable" – feels like almost yesterday when we had the first gen 6Gb SAS2 controllers and were mindblown as 1200MB/s lol
I use the vga port on my dc’s everyday.
Composite/VGA tends to require less power and processing than modern display connections like HDMI or Display Port. If you’re using a server for dedicated processing you may not be running the actual program on the server itself, for instance using a Threadripper workstation to design a Blender rendering then compiling it using a network package sent to the server(s). My understanding is that in most enterprise cases, if they do need to physically manage the server directly, it will most likely be a text/bios and not a screen that requires higher resolution or frame-rate.
I'd be stuffed without the VGA, sometimes you just want to have a local control point.
I've had pretty good luck with Supermicro servers over the years.
