This VS Code Killer Just Went Open Source (Written In Rust BTW)
Zed’s looking cooler than ever. Still has a ways to go, but open sourcing such a big project is always impressive. Genuinely hyped for the team and can’t wait to see where things go. Will this help me stop missing Sublime Text? Will my search for the perfect IDE stop here? To be determined.

linux web server
"VS Code Killer" = MacOS only
Honestly I’d watch a video just about tree-sitter because it’s hugely underutilized
I guess I wait for a while since it not on window or linux.
I use your shirt to seed my random number generator.
I've been using helix, a neovim alternative in Rust, and I'm very happy with it. The transition from neovim wasn't easy but I prefer the defaults in helix, plus it has almost all the features I want from my editor out of the box without having to install a dozen plugins which I really appreciate!
frontend editor without plugins will always suck
quick-lint-js doesn't do anything vscode doesn't. Maybe it's an older plugin and now vscode just supports it natively
I'm trying out Zed with a REALLY large codebase and the performance difference compared to VS Code is significant. Zed is orders of magnitude faster when doing file search and intellisense suggestions and I haven't had the typescript language server crash a single time.
@24:44 I don't need any plugins to make my tailwind code readable because I don't use tailwind. It's a great way to keep your code clean. Did people forget the Separation of Concerns mantra? Or are devs now so young they don't know why we went away from using the style tag?
how is vscode not feeling local? I honestly cant notice the difference . If no one tells me, I wont even know it is an Electron app
but its not on linux 🙁
the great thing about vscode it`s it plugin ecosystem, not having that will limit their growth exponentially
When I was learning on my own I used VScode because it was so prolifically mentioned everywhere and the plugins were helpful for my vision, but when I went to college they had us use Sublime and I definitely felt the performance you mentioned. I will have to take a look at Zed and would love to see you cover more things like this!
I love Zed. Been using the Preview (not Beta) for months now and it’s so fast and beautiful. My needs are light: HTML, CSS, and a sprinkling of PHP so I am more than happy for its current state and look forward to seeing it evolve.
Evil Emacs forever!!!!!
The reason it can actually succeed is the GPL, and because it's copyleft not the standard Open Source. I had interesting views and opinions on open source licensing would be good if you make a video. Gpl has its minuses but.. is the closest thing to my views. That's why at one point i started releasing under MPL2. Apache 2 must be the norm at least.
>only available for macOs, the gay OS
>built in a language famously used by trannies
>offers nothing new besides the "WE ARE NOT JAVASCRIPT, WE ARE RUST!!"
Another failed attempt to dethrone vscode
what's with the r3t@rded pics bro
Mac OS only IDE is not going to kill any other IDE.
Found out it’s mac only. Immediately lost interest about this crap. Back to nvim for me.
Killing VS Code by going Mac only. Yeah, good luck with that.
