  • Niiiice…I tried it and it works great. Thanks for this.

  • Thanks! I've been trying to get pics off of my iPhone using YouTube and email, very tedious. This works great, though at first, when I connected the iPhone to the PC with the USB cable, the gphoto2 command gave an error – something was preventing it from acquiring the phone. So I tried ejecting (unmounting) the phone, then reran the command, and it worked great!

  • Holy fuck, it worked! TYVM! (I too got annoyed by the background music)

  • Do you know where I can download that pic program?

  • When I tried those commands, I got a message NO SUCH COMMAND!

  • If you are going to make a tutorial then turn off the annoying background music.

  • welp, I did some things and it looks like it's working:
    sudo apt-add-repository ppa:ingo/ios7support
    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get upgrade

rebooted and it looks like this command is now working. Thanks

  • in order to use gphoto, you need to install a library. Here are the commands I used for Ubuntu 14.04:

for the library: sudo apt-get install libgphoto2-2dev
to install gphoto: sudo apt-get install gphoto2
to transfer everything in photos folder in your iphone: gphoto2 –port=usb: -R -P

note that it will save them all in home directory.

  • Dude this worked great.  You have to install gphoto2 first though.  Thanks so much.

  • Great tutorial Thank you very Much!!!! i was able to get my iphone pictures on my Debian box!!!

  • I installed Mint 14 – plugging in my phone it offered to open gthumb import tool, which will import photos – in fact, all media (7.8GB on my phone) if you don't select the filter.

We're coming on… Next up, how to transfer your music on to the phone!

  • I have switched to a program named (filezilla) u must be jailbroken but is one hell of a program, syncs everything over wifi, havent used itunes since, also good for transfering photos!

  • Do you know if you can use gphoto2 to move pictures or video (or songs) from pc to iphone as well? I have been trying to find a way to sync or at least backup iphone to linux mint and this is the best I can find given that photos are the most important, music and podcasts would probably be second most important, and apps data third. Any suggestions short of running a VM inside to run itunes? Thanks again.

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you! This is exactly what I needed to do, and what you indicated worked exactly as you described. Thanks.
