• Never had nextcloud break on update after i went the old school way (old fashioned lamp install ina avm)…….

• Nextcloud is awesome when it works, but when it breaks, good luck getting it back to normal without doing a wipe and reload. I’ve had way too many issues with it. I would never recommend it for production.

• Running nectcloud AIO in in docker. No update issues so far.

• Paperwork is why Enterprises don't like 2 factor. I assume ot I'd complicated to manage 2 factor among a team in an enterprise, especially if they are dispersed or remote. The Compsny I work for requires 2 factor for Cloud Infrastructure. On the other hand, the only 2 factor available for most employees (HR and quadi-public sites) is sms or email. They have even blocked biometric auth for 3rd party apps. It's ridiculous that many large companies still rely on these older and less secure authentication schemes. I'll believe the enterprise world is secure when the banks finally enable totp for consumer accounts.

• Too bad they've chosen docker instead of podman

• I've went different path. Running proxmox, then running nextcloud docker container in LXC at my proxmox node. It is my second nextcloud. First was snap on ubuntu server on hyper-v in WS2019. And that was crap. That was partially reason for switching to proxmox.. although never anything broke during updates.
  Currently nextcloud aio running in LXC does the job.

• Do not stop doing what you love, you are very good at ti!

• If Nextcloud copied Home Assistant's backup system I'd actually use it. I think everyone should take inspiration from Home Assistant, it has been so easy to manage. Like, it even has NFS support for a backup target now and it works flawlessly, I'm so impressed!

• Does Owncloud have the same update problem?

• TrueNAS Core 4Ever! 😂 Creeping Enshittification is a real .. apparently. LOL Getting close to just switching to a clean distro + 45Drive Houston

• I've been managing a Nextcloud instance for myself and a friend for a couple years now. I run the docker AIO and haven't had any problems with the auto updates. Friend was running it on Unraid for a while but it wasn't auto updating and then completely broke. The AIO has been very stable for us at least, mounting all the data via a TrueNAS nfs.
  Also, huge wow for Home Assistant as well!! Cannot endorse enough.

• Honestly I stopped using NextCloud all together because of how fragile updating is. Ran it in a jail on CORE and then Docker version on SCALE. Both sucked pretty hard. I have better things to do with my weekends 😁

  In the end I only needed photo uploads and management from mobile. Switched to Immich for that, which is fantastic.

• Run nextcloud on a VM / lxc container or bare metal. Never on docker/kubernetes container. It’s not only in truenas that it’s a pain to fix it docker in general when it breaks and it breaks a lot ! I’ve been running my nc instance on a vm for years with zero issues.

• Opinions on snaps aside, setting up a nexctcloud snap with mounted storage is the easiest and most stable option. Snaps auto update, so system is pretty much hands off. Only restriction using this snap is you are limited to use one of two specific directories as mount points.

• Just started watching. Curious to see if you covered them leaving truecharts out to hang with the upcoming removal of k3s. Ok saw someone asked generically. I get the added complexity but it was actually very nice for updates etc without me having to mess with docker which means I need to now manage more. My apps needed so much less care and maintenance than when I was using docker. Charts is going to release their response / solution July 1 and I will decide where I want to go then.
