IP Addresses explained in under a minute
IP addresses are like digital labels that identify devices connected to the internet. They serve as unique identifiers for each gadget, much like a home address does for mail delivery.

When you connect to the internet, your device gets assigned an IP address. There are two types: IPv4 and IPv6. IPv4 consists of a series of numbers separated by periods (e.g., 192.168.1.1), while IPv6 uses a more complex alphanumeric format.

These addresses help devices find and communicate with each other across the vast network of the internet. When you type a website’s domain name into your browser, your device uses the Domain Name System (DNS) to translate that human-readable address into an IP address, allowing your device to locate the website’s server and request the information needed to display the site.

IP addresses enable seamless communication between devices worldwide, ensuring data is routed accurately and efficiently across the internet, powering our digital connections and online experiences.
